Objectivism Links

I have decided, for reasons of my own, to undertake a study of the philosophy of Objectivism. I plan to post links to articles, commentary, smears, disagreements, etc. The whole thing will doubtless take on a grotesque and disorganized air, but there you have it. as I am no academic, the topics I link to are going to be solely those that grab me. Commentary, etc. will follow on different threads, though I do plan to make brief notes about at least some of the links.

General – Portal Sites

The Ayn Rand Institute – The keeper of the flame of “orthodox” Objectivism. Not much in the way of articles, but oh boy do they want your money. Henceforth abbreviated ARI.

The Objectivist Center – Created by a man named David Kelley after his excommunication from ARI. Is it Objectivism Lite? Henceforth abbreviated TOC.

Sense of Life Objectivists – I honestly have no idea what these people are trying to prove, but they’re out there. Henceforth abbreviated SOLO. Kooks in my view, but I reserve the right to change my opinion. They make me chuckle, but I think Miss Rand would be appalled.

Noble Soul – A superb reference on its own, with numerous offsite links. Though Mr. Lawrence appears to be an “orthodox” Objectivist, he (atypically for the group) does not shun criticisms of Objectivism or views of Objectivism that differ from the ARI party line.

Lew Rockwell-AnarchoCappie – These people can’t make up their mind if they want to canonize or crucify Ayn Rand, or whether or not to welcome Objectivists or expunge them from their movement. The one thing they seem unable to do is ignore Rand or Objectivism. Articles range from the profound to the absurd.

The Autonomist – Link to their philosophy (not home) page, which I guess you’d term neo-Objectivist.

General –Topical Surveys

Objectivism defined by (what appear to be) non-Objectivists
Ayn Rand at the Encyclopedia of Philosophy –Curiously, No entry for Objectivism.
Objectivist Philosphy at Wikipedia – Seems a fair presentation, which means neither Objectivists nor critics of Objectivism will like it.

Objectivism, defined by self-defined Objectivists
Introducing Objectivism, by Ayn Rand
http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pagename=objectivism_pobs ]The Philosophy of Objectivism: A Brief Summary, by Leonard Peikoff[/url]
What is Objectivism? From TOC
What is Objectivism? From SOLO. Apparently written while drunk or suffering from a sticky CAPS LOCK key.

Objectivist Discussion Forums

Objectivism Online –Unabashedly pro-ARI, very quick to squelch dissent and ban dissenters. However, several very knowledgeable posters.
The Ayn Rand Forum- New forum, apparently set up by a former moderator of Objectivism Online. Currently a ghost town.
SoloHQ Forum – SOLO’s official forum.
Capitalist Paradise Run by a bratty teenager and his friends, can’t see it being useful. Cap Mag’s Forum Appears to be a forum in decline, however there also appears to be some sort of link to this place and ARI.
Autonomist Forums Not quite sure about this one. Some very ignorant people as mods. Definitely ‘neo-Objectivist.’

AR in Playboy From 1964. Interview only, no posing, LOL.

Scott Ryan v Objectivism – Libertarian criticisms of O’ism, from the profound to the nitpicky to the bizarre.

You Suck! No, You Suck!

SOLO Perversion of Objectivism – How a neo-Objectivist can accuse others of “perversion” of Objectivism is curious, but SOLO is shown to be run by a rather odd bunch.
TOC not ARI Why TOC is better, per TOC.
ARI boots Kelley The infamous “Fact and Value” by Leonard Peikoff
ARI Addendum to Kelley Disagee with us, and you’re either irrational or evil. Probably both.
Libertarian Response to LTPOL, Libertarianism, the Perversion of Liberty by Peter Schwartz
Objectivist Critiques Of Libertarianism.

Barbara Branden

Errors in Passion of Ayn Rand Criticism of biography by Barbara Branden

Nathaniel Branden

Interview with Nathaniel Branden (November 2004)
1998 Interview with Nathaniel Branden
The Benefits and Hazards of the Philosophy of Ayn Rand: A Personal Statement
Errors A list of errors in his books and articles.

Obviously this is a work in progress. Will, add, delete, move, etc., as the spirit moves me.

Miscellaneous & Oddities

Kant vs Rand Attempt to synthesize oil and water, err, Kant and Rand. I don’t get it, but there it is.
