OEM- Original Equipment Manufacturer
Is there any problem in buying an OEM piece of software versus the full retail version?
OEM versions of windows XP are running about 130-150 but the full version (for Pro) is 300 list. Any thoughts? |

Usually they are labeled as 'NOT FOR RESALE.' Unless that bothers you...
Need to check which computer they were sent out with also. Some computer companies work with Microshaft to develop proprietary versions that will not work on other systems. Compaq has done this in the past...

Yeah, I've heard that about Compaq too, and Packard Bell as well at one point...
One other thing about OEM software is that it often doesn't come with any real documentation for it. I've gotten OEM versions of Corel WordPerfect Suite & Corel Draw for a song compared to retail, but WP 8 had online documantation only & Draw had virtually none whatsoever ![]()

Search alt.binaries.images for Windows XP Devils0wn. No need to buy XP, this version is not timebombed, activated, or anything like it. I've been running it for about 4 months now, perfectly fine. Those OEM copies are going to give you more hassle than its worth.
