is it just me, or has this story suddenly vanished in the news?

nope. still all over the place. and there's another 'tazer story' too. I was watching CNN headline news this morn and they showed a clip from glen beck's show last night and I have to say I agree with everything he said, in this case. so instead of typing up what I have to say and being ignored like jwreck, I'm just gonna lift it. (much less effort.) thanks.

excluding guy's initial confronataion with the cops:
Quote:
During the question and answer period, he went off on a long, convoluted rant about why Kerry conceded the 2004 election and then proceeded to accuse Kerry of not trying to impeach President Bush because they`re both members of the Yale Skull and Bones secret society, you know?
...
In my opinion, I don`t see Meyer as a victim of an overly aggressively law enforcement agency. Looks as though this guy wanted to get tasered.

And don`t we live in a world of cell phone cameras and everything else, but there seemed to be more cameras on this guy than we use to tape this national show.

Bottom line, I think Meyer was grandstanding, looking for publicity. What better way in this YouTube culture than to star in your own video? Shocking, isn`t it?

I`ve got to tell you something: I am so sick of hearing of student`s rights. When are we going to start talking about the responsibility that these people have? And you know what, if he didn`t want to get tasered, I certainly would have put the idea in security`s head by repeatedly screaming, "Don`t taser me, no."

Andrew Meyer, you got your 15 minutes of fame. Sit down. Shut the pie hole.
This guy is a known prankster complete with his own website showcasing that fact. This was all about the attention...

The student was overly assertive, did not follow the rules (he was hogging the mic), and also appeared to have resisted the police, but that doesn't mean that he deserved to be tasered. Those things have been linked to deaths.

I'll take being tazed over a nightstick or a loaded spring to the forehead anyday...

the kid was a punk and a puss. he wanted it, and he got it.

he resisted the cops... all he had to do was walk out when the ask him to leave one of the first six times.

2 officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Andrew Meyer was told he was charged with "Inciting a riot."

Then the charges ended up being different, something along the lines of disrupting an event or something.

"Don't taze me bro!" He wanted no parts of that taser, and I don't blame him.

I'm not a betting man...but if I *were*....I'd daresay I'd wager on the former, as opposed to the latter....

Total agreement.

I what Jwreck says is true then fine, maybe he's playing us all and the cops were in their right. If not then what he previously said stands.

Anyway, if that had been myself up there I'd have been in jail period, because I just wasn't built to bend over to cops and respect authority when authority deserves no respect.

My sister personally knew the kid and was there she knew what went on. They did use excessive force it doesnt take 6 police and a tazer to hold someone down. If it does they are pu*sy police officers.

I must have seen a different video , the one I saw he spoke 20 seconds before this arm reached out and interupted him, which made him angry .

if you want to see a real loud maddog speak, watch Hillery or kerrys spaced out wife . Yet the ones they ' SERVE can't get emotional .

Maybe if some of you go to speak somewhere about something important to you, you will get interupted before you can even get started good ,then the hell shocked out of you , hope it is recorded !

The dude was being a complete jackass, and I have no problem with him being removed. Excessive force? Maybe, maybe not. If he was resisting, which I believe he was, honestly one well-trained cop should have been able to take him down - however I don't believe these security folks fall into that category. I haven't gone out to find verification but I've also heard that the security crew also reported that the guy only freaked out as long as there were cameras running - as soon as he was out of view of the cameras, he calmed down, and actually asked if there were going to be any more cameras at the police station. ie... publicity stunt.

So he may have been going over his time, beeing an attention whore, a drama queen and incredibly annoying - he might even have been trying to provoke the security to do what they did. Those are all good justifications for firmly telling him to end his question and then cutting his microphone.

Leading him away in handcuffs, however.... I don't think that's appropriate.

Whether or not he deserved it is another matter, though - and I think that's a very important thing to remember in cases like this. The law isn't about "giving people what they deserve", it's about preserving and protecting their rights.
