Unhappy He's Dying

My mom & brother have had their cat for over 11 years. He has without question part of the family, and has grown up with both my kids. He's 14 years old, and the past few months he's been sick on & off. Tonight my brother & I took him to the emergency animal hospital because he took a bad turn this afternoon, and we found out that he has advanced liver cancer, and will probably only live for another day or two If he starts having trouble breathing, etc. he'll be put to sleep earlier.

Both my mom & brother are a wreck. My brother cried the whole way home (I haven't seen him cry since our dad died in 1993).

Some of you may think it's silly, but the cat is the child my brother hasn't had, and my mom's youngest baby, so to speak.

We had cats as I grew up, and the closest experience I had was when our cat gave birth, and one of the kittens was still-born. I was about 6 or 7 at the time and I bawled until I didn't know where I was anymore.

I never saw any of the other cats die because we gave them all away before leaving England.

But my best mate in London had a cat that I grew up seeing just about every day, and it got old and ran away to die in private (as I here cats often do), and that hit me like a ton of bricks, even though I was already 16 or 17.

Of course it doesn't seem silly. It hurts like hell to lose a being you love!

I don't think it's silly at all, B. My heart goes out to your Mom and Brother ( and you too). I hope the kitty has a peaceful few days, with lots of milk and cat treats.

Thanks It sucks so much to lose a pet. I've had to give them away before, and that hurt, but I had to trust they would be well cared for, since I was in no position to do so. But watching them die, and knowing you can't help them....it's heartbreaking.

In July we got a 2 month old kitten, Midnight. A month later my daughter accidentally stepped on his neck one night & he ended up dying of a broken neck. To this day, that haunts her & I. The poor thing screamed & bawled for 10 minutes before he died. I don't know if you've ever heard that noise, but if you do, it will probably haunt you for a long long time.

To see my family hurt so much, and know that there's not much I can do, is a rotten feeling.

Thanks I wish it were that easy, but he won't even eat now. But they're doing all they can to make him comfortable.

This will sound weird, but....I almost hope he will go soon, because 1. He's suffered enough already the past few months & 2. I know that they'll need someone there for them, and I'm leaving for a trip Monday afternoon. I don't mean it to sound cruel, and I know it does

I don't necessarily believe in heaven in the Xtian sense, but one thing I am sure of is that kitties go to kitty heaven.

I had told my daughter that after Midnight died. I said that he was in heaven, chasing mice & eating chicken (he loved chicken) & had all the catnip, toys & string that he wanted to play with It kinda helped tonight; she's pretty upset too Their cat was really the first animal the kids got close to

that happened my mother once.

very sad indeed. alot of our cats have been killed on the road and it's always painful to find them. the only cat that's live long and died naturally (we think) is our first one Dipper

Sorry Beatle. *hugs*

I still cry over my cat even though he isn't dead, just living somewhere else.

AAAAaaaagh! I hate stories like that! ><!
Reminds me of the one that my dad used to tell me all the time when I was a kid, his friend's son was dropped on his head and his neck was broken and he died at the hospital just after he was born.
