J.Lo Goes Solo, Splits with Hubby

Has Jennifer Lopez had Enough of marriage?

It's sure looking that way. The 31-year-old multihyphenate (actress, pop star, fashion designer, restaurant owner, etc.) has separated from less hyphenated mate, Cris Judd (dancer, husband), after less than nine months of once presumed wedded bliss, a source close to the couple said Friday.

The source said that Lopez and Judd are living apart and there "is validity" to them divorcing.

No official reason for the split was given, although the couple has been rumored to be on the outs for several weeks.

Lopez's publicist Alan Neirob refused to comment on the entertainer's marital status.

Conventional wisdom says it's an amicable split, with no additional parties involved. Unconventional New York Post columnist Cindy Adams says an additional party, in the form of fellow multihyphenate Sean "P. Diddy" Combs (actor, rapper, fashion designer, restaurant owner, etc.), was involved.

"He has always been in love with her. She has always been in need of him," Adams writes in today's Post.

Lopez and Combs, a red-hot item for two years, split circa Valentine's Day (news - web sites) 2001, back when he was known as the legally challenged Puff Daddy (news - web sites). When the duo announced their split, their demise was chalked up to Combs' ongoing trial in New York on weapons charges.

While Combs was acquitted of all charges facing him in March 2001, Lopez had already moved on--to Judd.

Lopez met Judd, 32, during a video shoot for her single "Love Don't Cost a Thing" (assuming you have an iron-clad prenup).

The two reportedly became engaged last June at a Los Angeles barbecue. They later celebrated--and confirmed--their impending nuptials at an all-star bash at the Hollywood power restaurant Morton's.

Then came the wedding: A private ceremony on September 29 in Calabasas, California. The bride wore Valentino; the groom, a big smile.

Following the wedding, Lopez and Judd collaborated on an NBC concert special (she starred, he choreographed). Judd also directed the music video for the J.Lo remix "Ain't It Funny," featuring Ja Rule.

In a cover story in last week's Us Weekly, Lopez gave no hint of any matrimonial trouble. "Chris brings serenity into my world," she says. "In the midst of the crazy storm that is my life, his love is what I need most of all."

Lopez, who once enjoyed a happy ending as a wedding planner in the romantic comedy The Wedding Planner, has yet to have good luck at the real-life wedding thing.

Her first marriage, to Ojani Noa, then a waiter, ended in divorce just a year after their February 22, 1997, ring exchange.

And of late, Lopez hasn't had successful marriages on the big screen, either. Her latest flick, Enough, depicts J.Lo as a battered wife who finally fights back at her bad hubby--with her fists. (Judd and Lopez cowrote a song featured in that film, "Alive.")

Maybe she'll have better luck--in the movies, at least. In Jersey Girl, an in-the-works Kevin Smith comedy, she's slated to play the meet-cute spouse of Ben Affleck.

That's just a typical sign of the times... too young, no relationship experience, and marrying before you either know what marriage really means, or not realizing that you don't marry for lust alone.
