Unhappy I want to move...

In the seven years I have lived in this trailer park, there has been one kidnapping/murder (which happened a LONG time ago, though), and now one drug deal-related stabbing. Happened Friday night--and they still don't know who did it. The guy got his throat slit, but is in the hospital recovering.

I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the nightmares I was having last night or not. But about a week ago I had this really freaky dream where someone was stalking us--they'd call from a private number and tell us that they knew what we were doing, send random emails etc. Atleast with that one I woke up and it was MORNING--my fear was melted away instantly by sunlight.

But last night was terrible. I dreamed that I was standing on the steps with my dad while he was smoking a ciggerete--we heard screams from the next trailer down and then nothing. Then a guy jumped out from the window and was holding some kind of weapon, saw us, and had this really creepy grin and started running towards us. We ran inside and locked the door really quickly. THEN we walked by the kitchen window, and the guy JUMPED up and mashed his face against it like in the horror movies. That's when I woke up.

It was around 3AM, still dark, and I had to walk by the kitchen window to get to my mom's room. I was scared to go by it--mostly because I was still half-asleep.

I haven't had to wake my mom up after a bad dream since I was four at the oldest. I'm such a baby.

But still....it was really freaky and I don't wanna live here anymore.

Spaz, it's normal to make nightmares , given what happen recently. The most important thing is to talk about your nightmares and also talk to your parents.

It's a very taugh position you're in. No one should live in dangerous places, no one should have to deal with fear at such an young age.

Spaz... you need to be strong. Sometimes parents cannot protect their children as much as they wish. What you can do, is stay out of trouble. Learn as much as you can, get the best education you can, that's your way out!!

As for the tough neighbourhood, get home before the night falls and stay away from dangerous people. People don't attack other person without reason, most of the times. Deal with this fear, it will get you stronger and in the end, this wish to leave the trailer park will be your salvation.

But you need to be strong and motivated, smart and careful, not weak... ok, spaz? talk to your parents about what's bothering you. It won't go away just like that.

I don't really go outside much--there was an incident about a year ago (long story short, I was alone and a random guy in his mid to late twenties started asking me personal questions), and I've been too cowardly to be outside without someone there with me ever since.

I was just now starting to get over that. And my mom was going to start having me walk to the top of the hill to the bus stop to walk the two little girls that we babysit to the house. I don't think I can do it now.

I need to take karate or something so that I can kick ass.

Take karate for yourself, but be aware that no karate will make a 14 years old beat up a grown up man. Taking self defense lessons will give you piece of mind, but you still need to be aware.

You're smart, your parents love you, you'll do wonderfully, I'm sure!

taking some self defence course or karate or something like that, is a very god idea. it wont make miracles , but it will teach you to not freak out in a dangerous situation, and make smart decisions. I think all girls should learn some form of self defence.
oh and spaz, now its more important then before to go out and do what you planned. it will be scary, but you can do it. you will see that you can do things and be scared at the same time. fear is your friend, that warns you and makes you bright and sharp.

Just when you go out and do those things, make sure you bring those knucks They're quite intimidating.

yea that helps too.... but using those is something else. its not fun to do such damage, and might generate agression.

I really do want to take some kind of self-defense thing--it's pretty expensive, though, so it'll probably have to wait until Spring.

And I'll TRY to still go get the girls and stuff....I'll probably still avoid it when we can drive up there though.

I know its not. However, chances are if your attacker SEES you wearing them, he'll turn around and leave. Not too many people would come bare-fisted up to someone armed with those . I hope I never have to use mine but I'm not exactly a guy who you'd wanna mess with either.

They caught the guy who did it. That makes me feel a bit better.

The creepy thing is, I've seen him and been freaked out by 'im before. Not because he did anything though....I was walking outside with my best friend about a month ago, and he (in his car) pulled up really close to where we were walking, and said something about "Where're YOU goin'?"

It turned out that despite how it seemed, he wasn't talking to us....he immediately backed into his driveway and started talking to someone else. Still, it took the whole walk back to the house for my friend to calm me down.

But yaaaaaaay he's not here anymore.

All good idvice. Self defense is a good thing to learn (as long as you dont think ya invincible after taking it, always remember, as a girl, guys are usually stronger than you are )

hugs

Spaz, sorry about the creepiness in your neighborhood; that's terrible!

About martial arts, it's a very good idea, but perhaps in a different way than you think: When I was about your age, maybe a couple years younger, I was getting harrassed & beaten on quite a lot. I began to study judo, & it's been a very effective form of self defense. Namely, it's ideal for when someone grabs you, which is how some 90% of tussles seem to end up, in close & grappling. Most interestingly, it will change your presence, so that people will see you differently. They will be much less willing to tangle with someone who carries herself with power & confidence. In fact, noone ever messed with me again, at least not in high school.

Also, knocking someone on their ass is an excellent way to discourage them & earn a bit of time to escape. (Yes, run away! Run-fu is the best martial art there is! Some call it Nike-do. )

If you're still attached to the idea of punching & kicking, Wing-Tsun is a very effective form of self-defense. Maybe even too effective. It's quite powerful & doesn't require a great deal of brute force, which is why they sometimes call it a "women's artform" (but make no mistake, LOTS of men use wing-chun!) What it does require is lots of gradual bone-hardening & tendon-strengthening. It involves lots of devastating strikes to the face & body. Obviously, it can't be practiced full-force the way that judo can.

Actually, this is one of the best things about judo; you can go at it hard without worrying too much about hurting someone or getting hurt too badly. This means you are using it in training the way you would use it in an actual conflict.

Finally, I would say get some pepper spray & learn how to use it properly. Pepper spray & the Nike-do "Swoosh" technique is the quickest, easiest self-defense combo you can learn!

And last of all, remember: anyone messes with you, in ten seconds Baboon, Feenix, Myself & probably a dozen other big, mean DA'ers are gonna show up carrying a large crate full of whoop-ass & sorrow!
