One Cow, Three Cows, Eight Cows
A long time ago, in a far away country, was a small town. In this small town everyone knew each other. When a man wanted a girl he took a liken to, he would approach the father, and offer a cow as a gift to receive the girl. Now an average girl was traded for one cow, while a beautiful girl was given three cows.
A man, one day making his rounds, noticed an average girl, no sparkle, just plain. So he took a liken to her, but instead of the One cow, he offered the Father of the girl Eight Cows. Well this surprised the father, and the girl. Soon news traveled about the town. And people wondered why this young man paid Eight Cows for this average girl instead of cow. Well, years passed by, and when the women went to town with the man, all the towns people noticed how beautiful, elegant, and gracefully she was. As a matter of fact, she was the prettiest of all the girls in that town. So they stopped the women and asked her, how did a one Cow women become so beautiful, well she replied, My husband, did not see an average girl, so he paid an above average price for me, and I felt like a queen. Then soon. I became that queen. So his average was never average, and your partner, is and should be an Eight Cow price. So, you see, if you love and nurture something, like it should be loved and nurtured, then a beautiful flower just might emerge. So you can never love to much.

Actually, he had five cows to many, so to avoid uncle Sam, he decided to give them away, so he could avoid taxes, is that what you are trying to say

theres a movie about this story. the reason he give 8 cows for her is because everyone in the village calls her ugly and he wants to prove to her that she's important to him. so when everyone in the village finds out that she is an 8 cow woman they have to be nice to her.. and she turns out to be beautiful after all.. she just needed some self esteem
 very romantic story.edit: and i think its originally a polynesian story
