VATICAN CITY (AP) -- The Vatican's chief astronomer said Friday that "intelligent design'' isn't science and doesn't belong in science classrooms, the latest high-ranking Roman Catholic official to enter the evolution debate raging in the United States.
The Rev. George Coyne, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, said placing intelligent design ideas alongside the theory of evolution in school programs was "wrong'' and was akin to mixing apples with oranges.

"Intelligent design isn't science even though it pretends to be,'' the ANSA news agency quoted Coyne as saying on the sidelines of a conference in Florence. "If you want to teach it in schools, intelligent design should be taught when religion or cultural history is taught, not science.''

why dont people get that an all powerful god is powerful enough to use natural selection as it's means of creating biodiverisity, knowledgeable enough to use Science to make things happen?

(is that technically an ID philosophy to think that God uses science to make things happen? since i'm not thinking that it's science alone? *shrug* my god is powerful enough to use science, or maybe i'm deist who knows.)

I am a catholic, and reading things like this always make me alil more proud to be a catholic, because it's major progress! Like that time the monsignuer did a sermon about how Darwin wasnt against God, (and how evolution isnt against god either) I was so floored, it was GREAT!

Personally, I'd prefer it be relegated to abnormal psychology.

ID cannot be science, since it is essentially the *death* of science...
I mean, let's just stop looking for any answer to stuff we don't know yet, and just claim "It's God will " ...
