Chapter I: Myah’s Secret

~ Darkness falls on urban streets
Submerging cities loud sharp peaks
Swallowing up the sun’s soft beams
Nothing’s ever as it seems


Myah stretched, arching her back and sleepily running her hands through her long sleek hair. Her slender body twisted and she sighed. She looked through the cracked window and noticed the bleak weather. It was so persistent this year. She gazed out the window longing for some summer warmth.

Footsteps caught her attention and she shivered as she turned towards the door. Her vibrant green eyes slit as the dark figure entered the room. The dim light illuminated his haughty face and the filthy marble floors echoed the thundering sound of his footsteps as he strode towards Myah. He brushed past her and she suppressed a growl. Fingering her jeweled dagger she smiled grimly.

“I see you’ve finally returned.” She spat. Anger flashed in his eyes but he responded slyly. “I have come back sister.” He hissed. “I’ll be staying with you and mother until the child arrives.” He stroked Myah’s swelling stomach and she kicked him. He pushed her hard against the stonewall bruising her. Eyeing the dagger clutched in her hand he released her from his grip.

Myah stared at him doing nothing to stifle her flaring hatred. She brushed back strands of black hair that had fallen in her eyes during the struggle, and absently let her hand fall to her stomach where it rested. She would never let him have the child she carried. She gave him a quick look, and sadness touched at her eyes.

Quickly she brushed it aside and but up the indifferent stony look she had become accustomed to in the recent years. Invisible tears rolled down her cheeks as she slipped out of the room into the winter breeze. Despair grew steadily inside her as she trudged back to her mother’s small cottage. She burned with desire to turn back and use the bloodstained weapon at her belt. She thought of her daughter and the desire quickly subsided. She would get her back in time. She just hoped she wouldn’t have to sacrifice the child growing inside her womb to do it.

Chapter II: Scarlet Princess

Once the darkness covers all
the night takes hold of her own law.
Shapeless figures all around
creeping softly, they make no sound.


“Ariah, come take a look at this.” A gruff man snorted. She stood 5 feet in height, but seemed to tower over the tallest of men. A sword lay across her chest, the handle inlayed with garnet and emeralds. Her beauty was undisputable. Her eyes shone and her pale skin was flawless and seemed to shimmer even in the dimmest light. Her scarlet hair touched the floor, and her blue intelligent eyes made one shiver. “What do you want?” She demanded. The guard looked out over the ledge of the tower and signaled for her to come over. She pointed her slender finger at a figure on a horse several miles away coming towards them. “Close the gates immediately and send some men down to greet him.” The guard mumbled something and she shot him a fierce look. “Yes my Lady. As you wish.” He said with a quick bow. “Bring him to me at once.” She growled. He could still hear her barking orders as he descended the rough stone stairs.

Knowing that it would be several hours before the man arrived she slipped into her room. She quickly lit a few black candles and pulled out her silver dish. Unwrapping it from the black cloth she admired its beauty. Etched around it were foggy images that revealed chilling thoughts. She polished it slowly and poured the clear liquid from the flask around her neck. She blessed the pool of water and the silver that held it and slowly began to drift away. Focusing on the scarlet ball of energy in her mind she found images of the man riding towards the castle. She looked into the pool of water revealing him.

He had stopped and was watering his horse. Bored, she pasted him and began to search for the woman that carried the child she was waiting for. This child, she knew, would accomplish great or terrible deeds. She must protect it from Nadir’s grasp.
