Movies out this week, friday may 13
wide release
Kicking and Screaming PG-13 Phil Weston (Ferrell) has spent his whole life dealing with his overbearing, competitive father, Buck (Duvall). Now Phil is coaching his 10-year-old son's soccer team, and their opponent in the finals is a team led by none other than Buck, who's also coaching his young son on the team. Monster-In-Law PG-13 Charlie (Lopez) thinks she's found the man of her dreams in Kevin (Vartan), and when he proposes to her, she quickly accepts. The problem is Kevin's mom (Fonda), a recently fired news anchor who's determined to stop her son from making what she feels is a huge mistake. Before long, the two women are engaged in an epic battle for Kevin's loyalty. Mindhunters R Seven recruits (played by LL Cool J, Christian Slater, and others) travel to a remote island to train for an FBI program that produces "mindhunters," psychological profilers who track down killers. Before long, a murderous psycho is in their midst, and the students begin to think the killer is one of their own. Val Kilmer co-stars as the leader of the school. Unleashed R Danny (Li) has been raised by his master, Bart (Hoskins), to be a champion in illegal fight clubs, leaving him mentally undeveloped and restrained by an electronic dog collar that keeps him from going nuts. After Bart is in an accident, Danny is adopted by a blind pianist (Freeman), who teaches him that there's more to life than kicking butt. Limited Release Layer Cake R A coke dealer (Daniel Craig) plans an early retirement after becoming one of the richest, most successful drug lords in England. But his boss, Jimmy, gives him a last assignment that proves rather difficult: finding the missing daughter of Jimmy's old buddy Edward, a powerful businessman. It's All Gone Pete Tong R This mockumentary follows Ibiza club DJ Frankie Wilde who finds himself going deaf in his late-30s. Soon afterward, his wife leaves him and he loses his record deal. Tormented by his cocaine addiction and hearing loss, Frankie hits rock bottom. Mad Hot Ballroom PG Documentarian Marilyn Agrelo follows a group of 11-year-old New York City school kids as they reluctantly take ballroom dancing lessons. It's not long before they're dancing like old pros and setting their sights on a citywide competition. Tell Them Who You Are R Documentarian Mark Wexler examines the life of his father, legendary cinematographer Haskell Wexler, whose credits include One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, American Graffiti, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

This the calm before the Star Wars storm next week. Kicking and Screaming has the potential to be funny though

Ferrell is getting boring just like Jim Carrey did. Nobody's interested in the same schtick over and over.

It's All Gone Pete Tong R
This mockumentary follows Ibiza club DJ Frankie Wilde who finds himself going deaf in his late-30s. Soon afterward, his wife leaves him and he loses his record deal. Tormented by his cocaine addiction and hearing loss, Frankie hits rock bottom. This one sounds like it could be really funny. |

My friend took me to Monster In Law tonight. It was OK (although Lopez makes me cringe every time) but predictable. Wanda Sykes was great though
