Iraq blasts mar Muslim holy feast

Iraq's Christian minority is in shock
Insurgents in Iraq have carried out a series of bomb attacks, coinciding with the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
A series of blasts before dawn targeted five Christian churches across the capital over the course of an hour. There were no reports of casualties.

A mortar round exploded later at one of Baghdad's hospitals, killing one.

Three US soldiers and a translator were killed on Friday when their patrol was hit in a suicide car bomb attack in the town of Qaim near the Syrian border.

Another soldier was wounded, the US military said on Saturday.

In Falluja, US and Iraqi troops maintained their siege for a second day as they try to bring the restive Sunni city under their control.

A delegation from the city offered to resume peace talks with the government if the attacks were halted and the chief negotiator released. The current offensive began after they suspended talks earlier this week.

It is a religious sanctuary, how could they attack a religious place?

Christians targeted

No-one has said they were behind the church attacks that caused extensive damage.

The first bomb exploded at the church of Saint Joseph at about 0400 am (0100GMT) followed by similar explosions outside four other churches.

Flames engulfed the Roman Catholic St George's church in the central Baghdad district of Karrada.

The renewed offensive in Falluja aims to bring the city under government control
"My family and I fled from the fire," said caretaker Nabil Jamil.

Kamil Shabo, a 40-year-old labourer, said the bombers were "infidels".

"They have no faith," he told Reuters news agency. "It is a religious sanctuary, how could they attack a religious place?"

"Muslims and Christians have been living here in harmony for hundreds of years," said Father Gabriel Shamami from St Joseph's Church.

"I don't think Iraqis would do this especially during Ramadan."

Monsignor Emmanuel Delly, the patriarch of the Chaldean Church, said there was nothing the tiny minority could do.

"If the government is powerless, what can we do," he said. "We call on them [the attackers] not to touch the holy sites."

The Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq denounced the attacks against the churches, Arabic television station al-Jazeera reported.

There are around 750,000 Christians living in Iraq.

Many have fled to neighbouring countries since the rise of Islamic fundamentalism after the toppling of Saddam Hussein.

In August devices were set off at four churches in Baghdad and one in Mosul, killing a number of people and wounding dozens more.

At a minimum, the Iraqi Christians, and everyone else there seeking justice, should destroy or convert the Mosques in order to stop the uncivilized behavior of the Muslim Terrorists.

No wonder hussain buried them in mass graves and hung them from lamp-post . He did them a favor, they died a tortured death in political jihad . Even I'm beginning to miss hussains presence as far as ' radical ' muslims go . At least he kept the demons at bay . I am so sick of hearing of al the beheadings and suicide bombers every single day . While the world defends them ! Especially self hating liberal Americans .

If it's you or yours it is . Maybe all this killing will de-program some of these people . But education would be alot better . Ironically , most go to western nations for education and sorry to admit come out more the demons they were before . Binny Laden himself went to US univ. . Guess when he saw all the perverts and violence in them he went even more radical . I bet he has bad cave dreams about the purple headed literal ' people eaters ' . He is probly mad because he was number one demon, until he met some of our professors .
