Pre-emptive strike on Wash Post Article
I know someone was eager and filled with glee to post this article so I've decided to do it for you and "fact check" it in the process
Fellow skipper's citation refers to enemy fireBy Michael Dobbs By Michael Dobbs Updated: 11:12 p.m. ET Aug. 18, 2004 WASHINGTON - Newly obtained military records of one of Sen. John F. Kerry's most vocal critics, who has accused the Democratic presidential candidate of lying about his wartime record to win medals, contradict his own version of events. In newspaper interviews and a best-selling book, Larry Thurlow, who commanded a Navy Swift boat alongside Kerry in Vietnam, has strongly disputed Kerry's claim that the Massachusetts Democrat's boat came under fire during a mission in Viet Cong-controlled territory on March 13, 1969. Kerry won a Bronze Star for his actions that day. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Aug18.html Why do I post it? This is typical of the liberal media. What they are doing is outright lying and attempting to do is paint a false image. 1) The first paragraph.... Newly obtained military records of one of Sen. John F. Kerry's most vocal critics, who has accused the Democratic presidential candidate of lying about his wartime record to win medals, contradict his own version of events. Larry Thurlow has NEVER, EVER stated that his boat came under fire. The version of events the Wash Post is citing is the citation report. Mr Thurlow did not author that report. That means that the after action report and the authorship have to be determined. The the only way that can be done is with a Standard Form 180 for the National Archives. 2) What is interesting about this article is the lack of information regarding who put Thurlow's name in for the medal. Who wrote up the citation? Who signed off on it? 3) Im sure they Wash Post didn't intend this but it also confirms a Swiftboat Vet allegation that Kerry fled the scene. Here: For much of the episode, Kerry was not in a position to know firsthand what was happening on Thurlow's boat, as Kerry's boat had sped down the river after the mine exploded under another boat. He later returned to provide assistance to the stricken boat. Now how would Kerry be in a position to say that they were coming under fire if they fled 5000 yards downstream? 4) Isn't it also incredibly odd that the Washington Post will look into Thurlow, but not Kerry. Whats up with that? 5) And a prediction. I'll bet that we'll now have Democrat after Democrat suddenly believing that official U.S. military documents are the holy grail of all truth. LOL!!!!!! Odd considering what their stance has been on military documents for the past few years, or decades. |

Obligatory, "oh, another swift vet thread."
But to the point, Thurlow should give back his bronze star if any of your post is true. Clearly he doesn't deserve his medal, either.
