I've been pondering something lately, and it struck me as odd that no one thought of doing this back about 2000 years ago.
Before Jesus was crucified, he told those he could at the time that he would rise again in 3 days time, back from the dead. My question is this: Why didn't anyone sit in the tomb with his body to see how the miracle was happening? I mean the Bible says that there were doctors at that time, there were prophets who were around at the time that said that Jesus was the messiah, his family and Apostle's should have thought that after 3 days in a tomb he might come back to life hungry and thirsty. Why was no one interested in what was happening in the tomb if his word was good to them? Just think, miracles would have been occurring inside that tomb, right? I mean wouldn't someone have wanted to watch how Jesus' wounds from a spear in his ribs and holes in his hands and feet healed up? Why was it that 3 days later, everyone suddenly started taking an interest again? Was it that they really all just believed he wasn't going to resurrect? Where was their firm belief?

Just by looking at the Bible, the question can be answered.

They can build giant freakin temples and towers.
They can build a wooden ark capable of carrying 2 of all the worlds animals. Yet... they can't move a freakin rock.

RWZ, Joey obviously didn't read or comprehend that quote so I will have to point out the basics.
![]() The head Jews approached Pilate once again and were afraid Christ, who they referred to as "that deceiver," would rise and exit the tomb after 3 days. They demanded that the tomb be guarded to insure that his followers did not artificially fulfill the prophecy which would instantly reduce the power of the head Jews. Pilate agreed and the tomb was made secure with a stone, as well as guards standing by. When the various Mary's arrived to pay respect, the stone was rolled and Christ appeared to them and others. That scripture still doesn't answer my question.
The guards did not go to the tomb until after the second day. All through the life of Jesus everyone around him wanted to see his miracles being performed. People wanted to touch him; people called to him from distant cities for his healing; books were written about him performing his miracles. All kinds of people took an interest in it. The sepulcher had a stone placed in front of it, sure. But why did no one go in with his body when he was placed there to watch the miracle occur if his miracles were so important and popular? There were no guards right away. He wasn't alive to disuade them not to do so. He told them ahead of time that the miracle would be happening inside the tomb. He did not command any of his followers not to be there to watch what happened while he was resurrecting. So why not?

It was the sabbath day, so according to Jewish law, none of them could in (moving the rock would have been work). I doubt the guards would have been interested in going in, and even if they where, Romans where a disciplined army.

Tala Hotyk, keep in mind all through the life of Christ, the head Jews plotted to kill him. This obviously was a source of tremendous intimidation and ultimately caused his most trusted disciples to deny Him even while He was alive.
Just reread the last chapters of each Gospel. The disciples still had trouble believing after His return and Christ had to remind some of them of the prophecies he fulfilled including the one about rising from the dead the third day. |

I thought the scriptures says the day after he was crucified was the Sabbath so they had to entomb him right away. The guards did not come until the second day and then the stone was put in place, right? So didn't they work on the Sabbath?

I just find it so interesting that there was no connotation to anyone wanting to watch the resurrection occur in the New Testament. I just keep thinking that someone must have wanted to.
