Tokyo - Police have arrested a 20-year-old Japanese man who broke into a nurse's home, stole her bankbook and clothes and tried to withdraw money at a bank by impersonating her, authorities said on Wednesday.
Kiyotaka Ishikawa was arrested at a bank in the western Japan city of Kobe on Tuesday after a bank teller suspected the person claiming to be a woman was really a man. The teller called the account holder on her registered telephone number to check. "The suspect, who is slightly built, looked just like a woman but his voice made the bank teller suspicious," a spokesperson for Hyogo police said. He was wearing a beige sweater and pale green skirt he stole from the nurse on Monday as well as a wig with hair reaching below the waist and women's underwear. "The wig and underwear were his own," the police official added. The suspect was taken into custody in women's attire but was given men's clothing when he was put in a detention cell at Hyogo police station. He was also ordered to take off a bra he was wearing, as "anything with straps is dangerous", the police officer said. - Sapa-AFP
