Tele Pickups

Working on a Telecaster project guitar. Swamp ash body, quarter sawn maple neck with ebony fretboard. Looking for vintage style single coils.

Tele® players often complain that their low strings sound "mushy" and their high strings are too bright - especially in the bridge position. The Five-Two concept corrects this with Alnico 5 magnets on the three low strings and Alnico 2 magnets on the three high strings. The result is an all-around, extremely well-balanced pickup with traditional output and vintage appointments such as vulcanized fibre bobbins, formvar wire, vintage magnet stagger and waxed cloth hookup cable. Rhythm model comes with chrome plated brass cover.

The Fender Telecaster™ was the first true production electric solid body. The unmistakable twang and solid feel make this workhorse a classic guitar design.
Our Tele replacement pickups are a reproduction of the 50’s style using black fiberboard bobbin parts, cloth leads, ALNICO V or ALNICO III magnets, or 1/2 & 1/2. (ALNICO III’s were used in some pre-’55 Fender Telecasters.) On 1/2 & 1/2 pickups, we put the ALNICO III magnets in the E, A & G position and the ALNICO V magnets in the D, B & high E. This puts the brighter magnets where they are most useful.
Seem to be the opposite approach in using the AlNiCo V's.

The Strat version in action with Phil Brown doing an awesome, Texas blues style version of Purple Haze.

OF extreme interest is the legendary Joe Barden pickup. Seems pretty cool in that it is humbucker quiet.

Originally designed for Danny Gatton (and with Danny testing every step of the way) they have become the first choice of professional Tele™ players worldwide. The tone of these pickups can be described as absolutely vintage in character, but with greatly expanded fidelity. The lows, mids, and highs are all equal in strength, eliminating the thin, or "tinny" sound that is often a problem with Tele-styled guitars.
STrange that a warehouse retailer like Sam Ash sells them, but they apparently do and have a $50 discount going.

Too expensive. But like 10 years ago, before significant price increases on just about all US made guitars of all manufacturers, some PRS models could be had for $1,500 or so. I remember trying a number of them out at Guitar Centers in LA. I preferred the models with the "wide fat" neck and the dial that would change pickups instead of the toggle.

Anyhoo, I ordered a pair of Lollar Vintage T pickups for this latest project guitar.

I got the Lollars Vintage T pickups delivered, now waiting for the UPS guy with a Tele neck and Tele body in surf green from Warmoth which should be any minute. Still gotta make one more order for miscellaneous hardware like strap screws and pickup screws.

I rewired the strat fat with an old paf out of 50's gibson, and a hot seymour duncan. Not too shabby.
