11 year old girl gives birth on her wedding day

Kordeza Zhelyazkova was still wearing her wedding dress and tiara when she arrived at hospital and gave birth to little Violeta.

The schoolgirl, of Sliven, Bulgaria, fell pregnant within just two weeks of her 11th birthday.

She gave birth last week with 19-year-old husband Jeliazko Dimitrov at her side...

The whole thing just makes my skin crawl on so many levels. I mean, what do you do with the father? My initial impulse is to put the scumbag in prison—where he belongs, make no mistake—but then he wouldn't be able to pay child support or assist at all in raising the child. Well, maybe the child is better off without the latter, but the former is generally appreciated.

i believe he was sentenced to 6 years for having sex with a minor.

they're roma and live in bulgaria where the average age for girls to marry is 14-17.

yeah, i had a feeling that you had read it. sorry, just thinking aloud as i replied.

from what the grandmothers had said in the article it doesnt seem as though it's what they wanted for their children.

Who would want for their 11-year old daughter to be a mother?
My daughter was 19 when she had her baby and that was not at all what I wanted for her. I know what it's like to be a young mom, and it really does suck. Now she's learning that, too.

I have a 14 year-old daughter and I can't imagine her having a 3 year-old of her own right now.

The father needs to be beaten. At 18 he had sex with an 11 year-old. That's not in any way ok. Not in any way.

Now this poor baby is going to have to grow up with children as parents.
It just makes me so sad for the girl and her baby. Just so sad.

the article wasnt really about planned parenthood or that sort of thing, but i hear that argument alot. to be honest, i dont know the statistics for reasons women choose to have abortions.

Actually it is too bad they don't have planned parenthood there based on this story. She could have gotten some sex education, some free birth control, and if all else fails a Plan B pill.

What a very different culture though where our cultural standards mean nothing. They get married at 14-17 there. We would call them child rapists but the boy is marrying her.
