In praise of the LG dishwasher

I recently replaced my old, POS General Electric dishwasher with a brand-spankin' new LG. The old POS was so frickin' LOUD I'd have to raise the volume of my TV to the same level of a Metallica concert just to watch it while the dishwasher was running. This new LG model is as quiet as a church mouse. I can hardly hear this thing running!

God bless them Koreans

We're about to replace ours. What did the replacement cost? Did you install it yourself?

I just got a GE Quiet power 3. Same thing - very quiet. There's one that quieter(more quiet?) but it cost a bunch more. One word of advice. Don't get it from Home Depot because they arrange the installation and delivery separately so you get to spend about 3 days instead of 1. I got all my other appliances from Sears and would recommend that. I'd also recommend getting the warranty. I already had an issue a year after I bought it that would have cost me about $300. I was within a day of the warranty expiring.

Oh and cost wise I think it was all about $500...I'll have to check on that.

Good to know, Lulu. We're not set on a brand, but ours is original to the house, and is making quite a bit of noise. It sounds like it's dying.

You can do the change out of your dishwasher yourself. It's not hard. And then you can craigslist your old one. Someone will pay you to come in and haul it out of your house, as opposed to the other way.

The plumbing for the drain hose can be some work if the house is real old, but it should just be the hose hook up, the power wires and some screws to hold it in place I think.

Wow, I didn't realize monitor and cell phone companies made appliances.

Here is a sweet SAMSUNG dishwasher.

$800 is a nice deal. A good frying pan costs $200 nowadays for crissakes.

I've had great luck with our LG dishwasher and air conditioner for the main room and the kitchen. I thought they would be typical Asian crap and I'd be replacing them in a year, but the DW has lasted 6 years with not a single problem, and the air conditioner is on it's third year, and cut our electric bill more than half, down low enough the first summer to pay for itself, and holding on with no strain, so I'm really happy with it.

What amazes me is the fact that LG used to be Lucky/GoldStar. They made the crappiest and cheapest, junk appliances that money could possibly buy. Now they're actually making quality stuff.

GoldStar used to be the brand you would reluctantly buy when you couldn't afford something decent.

Nah. It has a plug that goes into a receptacle. And even on old houses, the drain line shouldn't be a problem. It's basically a vacuum hose anyway. New ones don't even have screws, just tension braces.

Holy shit. I had a goldstar stereo when I was about 13 and it was the shittest little thing ever. I had no idea they are LG.

Anyways, why do people buy dishwashers? They're shit!

The old ones were; it was just stupid to have to wash your dishes to put them in a dishwasher, so I never got one. The new pones, however, actually do clean most stuff pretty good without pre-washing, even peanut butter off of knives, so I sprung for one and have been pretty happy with it.

^Well that's something at least.

But that's not the reason I actually object to the damn things. The reasons for that are:

1) Time - if I want a clean cup I want it now, not in an hour and a ****ing half! Gimme an industrial Hobart that can wash a week's worth of cups and plates in 90 seconds and I'm your man - but not these crappy domestic things.

2) Cleanliness - you have to spend loads of time and effort on keeping the things clean, otherwise you're just washing up in dirty, unhygienic scud water.

So again I ask, why bother?

Hey Saison, I had an email from Sears this morning (they spam me all the time since I bought my appliances). They are having 10% off LD dishwashers with free installation and a rebate, 20% off Kenmore dishwashers. Good through 11/20.

I don't understand what you're talking about here. Mine drains and flushes the water, and also has a hot air dry feature that will sterilize just about anything. Do you have to recycle your dishwater in the UK?
