GREENHOUSES , JUST BUILT ONE .

In between seasons here we hope to plant food so we just built a geenhouse out of cheap materials .

100x20 ft 4mil clear plastic for cover $100.00

10- 10ft.pvc pipes for frame $ 26.00

Its only 25 x 12 ft. the size of our raised beds . Only thing I grew in pot was eggplant but plan to do more container growing .

Any suggestions ? We live in zone 8 ,gets cold but usually not long spells . .

I can't paste pictures I have web tv . Wish I could though .

Our lettuce didn't make it, I stopped watering it got too busy with Pappy who has been really suffering with pain past couple months .

But we finally got the greenhouse up and put plants in it yesterday . i did most of it myself but of course he had to help with the plastic covering being pulled over the pipes.

That's rough. What have you decided to plant in your green house? I bet flowers would be an easy start to get a feel for it. Then you could move on to foodstuffs.

I like flowers, but from now on my time and energy will be on food .

I have young tomatos and peppers we started from seed so far they both look good . I also have an eggplant that we got 4 veggys off , it looks like it is flowering again . A couple okra plants for exsperiment has small okras on them .

So far never used anthing but organic soil . I just turned compost yesterday that i had let go for 6 weeks, it looked ok considering .

I bet you could grow some cucumbers in there too. They do well in hot houses, IIRC. Also, you could consider growing green beans.

Thanks I plan to grow green beans and cukes soon as I get the hang of it . Be first greenhouse .

Pappy and I can't work together on most projects! We got into it over the g-house today . I'm stickler for directions and he likes to take short cuts ,like most men .

Right now we just have the sides held down with blocks and bricks until we put doors on it .

Well he's hurting really bad today so I go out and open it to let heat our so it doesn't cook my plants ' some are in bloom ' and the vinyl turns into a huge airborne parachut when a gust of wind comes up !

it may be a bad time to build the sucker . if it was his guitar that can't even get a fingerprint on it would be different .

Are greenhouses really worth all the trouble ?

My husband and I brew beer and make wine together. We look at it as a "team building" exercise. There's rules of conduct, of course, but one is that we have to be nice to each other.

There are times when we disagree, but in the long run, we're better off working together and it shows in the product.

I think with all the effort you've put into it so far, it would be a shame to give up on it. To be sure, think about whether you could do everything there by yourself. If so, then it is totally worth it. If you need a hand, and that's not available, then maybe you could reconsider.

Thanks Saison, we called truce and covered it back up . Plants are ok .

Your right I couldnt put it up alone . So since he likes duct tape so much, I told him to cover his mouth with it while we finished, haha, just kidding . I did go to the moon when he wanted to duct tape a tear though.

He is alot better than me with mechanics and building thibgs and usually does a good job .

Pappy should grow weed, smoke it, then post on DA while stoned. That would rule.

Well I just realized that Ican't heat a hoop house ! .

We set up the kerosene heater in it and found out no way to keep temp regulated .

Now that i have all those plants in bloom and little bell and jelopino peppers all over them that ill not make it . No place in our house with enough sun thats not shaded by hugh trees .

Also the carbon dioxide in there gave me a headache .

I'm very upset but learned another lesson .
