Thumbs down An Outrage on Capitol hill of unimaginable magnitude

House set to pass post-Virginia Tech gun bill

http://www.reuters.com/article/domes...29926420070612

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Spurred by the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history, the Democratic-led House of Representatives is expected to approve a bill to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, lawmakers said on Tuesday.

The legislation -- which the House is to take up on Wednesday -- was drafted in consultation with the 4-million-member National Rifle Association, the country's biggest gun rights group, after a deranged gunman killed 32 others and himself in April at Virginia Tech University.

The NRA generally fights legislation that restricts gun ownership.

Negotiators reached agreement in recent days on the measure, which would be the first major gun control bill enacted into law since 1994. It would provide financial incentives for states to provide mental health and criminal records to a data base used for federal background checks on gun buyers.

"It's going to pass," said Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, a New York Democrat and a chief sponsor of the bill, echoing the sentiment of many on Capitol Hill. "It's a good deal, and it's going to save lives."

Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president, agreed -- provided lawmakers do not try to attach a lot of other gun control amendments to it.

That's right, now they're going to throw some money at the states in an attempt to bribe them into stealing my confidential information (medical records) for another big brother database. Fock that. Next, someone who was diagnosed with mild depression 10 years ago won't be allowed to buy a gun.

Of course, the federal gov't is bribing the state gov'ts with money it stole from the state taxpayers in the first place. There's no limit to what you can do when you're bribing people with their own money.

This is just the beginning of total confiscation . If they hadn't taken away the right to carry on campus some of those people would still be alive .

I doubt most of the kids in that classroom would be packing heat, even if they did own a gun.

Read this bill. If you are a servicemen diagnosed with mental illness you can get out off of the list so you can then return to buy a gun and kill your wife and her lover. These are the really sick bastards, who are liable to go postal, but they can still buy despite their mental health conditions. Meanwhile, Joe blow who wants to go kill bambie won't be able to get a gun because he was given paxil 10 years ago. Somebody please Kill this Carolyn McCarthy liberal yankee whore for her antics.

Dude , In defense of the service men, there are millions of them ,yet when a very few kill their spouses or anyone else, it gets plastered all over the liberal media who happen to dispise them. but when millions of their favorites kill, rape crush and destroy,it is kept secret . Who fills our prisons ,it's not the military men, it's the the ones who suck the tits of the liberals; victims, invaders and radicals are who fill our prisons ,not service men . The illegals are the most dangerous group of all and now latinos are the largest groups in gangs and prisons , followed by blacks who are being relcruited by islam a lot of which are radicals . Read something besides the mainstream news .

Wrong ! Since your agaisnt the second ammendment ,how would you know about what the students for guns would do ? I know people who have consealed carry rights and alot are in college . But they will be prosecuted if they bring protection to school . So they just take their chancesand hope they live to see another day when they hear about all the criminals killing their peers with guns .

Punctuation is your friend.

Embrace the release of your spacebar, and all will be well.

Besides, I love the 2nd amendment. I eat it for breakfast along with the rest of my civil rights.

Yet another reason to avoid shrinks like the plague, and bureaucrats too for that matter.

That sort of thing would be a real problem. Of course, like all laws, they eventually take on a life of their own and do things that were never intended by the writers.

The NRA must really be feeling like they're on the ropes. I don't know why they would sign up to this thing so fast...and without even ringing the alarm bells to the membership first.

Bottom line...no amount of laws will stop kooks and crazies from getting guns and shooting people. If we banned all guns tomorrow, I'd be willing to bet that eventually an insane maniac like Cho would still murder people with firearms.

The point is, a "no guns" policy did nothing to protect those kids from gun crime. Correct? I'm willing to bet that a nationwide gun ban would have a similar non-effect on gun crime.

The NRA don't have enough people helping them fight . Alot of people want to have guns, but they won't contribute to the ones fighting to keep them .
