The Little Blue Box

So do chicks really get all excited when their man hands them one?

I've never bought anything from them myself.

Well that's certainly less expensive.

Getting a girl a nice piece of jewelry can be a lot of fun, as long as she's not a gold-digging whore who expects it from you. (do I sound bitter?) You're better off getting it at Wal-Mart than Tiffany's, though. A rock is a rock, no matter what the name brand on it is.

I would think Wal-Mart jewelry isn't quite the same quality as Tiffany's, but then again, I am no jewelry expert.

Did you know that jewelers can't tell the difference between a $65,000 diamond and a comparable cubic zirconium?

Just sayin'

There is a type of girl that would be excited to receive such a thing- not all girls want that sort of thing...but you wouldn't know that from all the marketing ploys we are all subjected to.

I would not want anything from Tiffany's. Just like I would not want my husband to bring me home flowers- such a waste.

Diamonds are stupid. Be original, or at least more original than that. Birth stones, amber, colored quartz, etc. are all viable options too.

Hell, get her a ring pop. At least that has some functional value.

A nice candle lit dinner at home would be a lovely gesture, and well maybe he might just get desert afterwards.

FWIW, my wife isn't a Tiffany/sparkly jewelry kind of girl. She prefers I spend the money on electronic gadgets for her. GPS for her car ($500) and a new Sirius-ready Alpine dashboard stereo ($400) for her car were the latest (she installed it herself!). Jewelry would be cheaper, dammit!

I'm tellin' ya, if she doesn't appreciate a ring pop, she doesn't deserve more than that.

The first time my now-husband handed me a pretty little box, I was scared because I thought it was coming with a proposal and I wasn't ready for it.

I feel guilty when my man buys me sparkly things, because I'm more of a casual gal, and I look at the gift and think "that would have paid off a lot of bills". I actually prefer more sensible gifts.
He only buys Canadian diamonds, so at least I can feel good that someone actually made an honest day's pay for mining them.

I am a sucker for men buying me jewellery . And yes, Tiffany's is a great brand name, so to answer your question, I would most certainly get all excited if I received that little blue box!!

My alternative to jewellery is nice trips, however.

Aren't diamonds really just for 'bragging rights'? I mean, the same visual effect can be achieved with fake diamonds. Who cares if a jeweler can determine the difference? The average person can't.

And isn't it insulting to woman that men think that they can be dazzled by sparkley things? That's how you lure a fish...
