WKRP Crew Grooved on Cincinnati (DVD finally releases)

'WKRP' Crew Grooved on Cincinnati

'WKRP in Cincinnati" fans should be pleased with what they see on the long-awaited first DVD release of the radio station sitcom - but they could be disappointed by what they hear.

Most of the 1970s hit songs have been replaced with generic rock.

"Music license fees have gotten out of sight. They just can't afford to pay the license fees," says Hugh Wilson, 63, creator and producer of the 1978-82 CBS comedy fictionally set in a struggling Cincinnati rock 'n' roll station. Music rights problems delayed releasing the show on DVD, he says.

The Fox Home Entertainment three-disc set to be released Tuesday ($39.98) includes all 22 shows from the first season, including station manger Arthur Carlson's (Gordon Jump) ill-fated Thanksgiving turkey drop promotion over a shopping mall, and the on-air drinking experiment by DJs Dr. Johnny Fever (Howard Hesseman) and Venus Flytrap (Tim Reid).

One of my all-time favorite shows.
Sucks that they had to change the music.
I can't believe the show is almost 30 years old.
