Women Of All Sizes Feel Badly About Their Bodies After Seeing Models

The rail-thin blonde bombshell on the cover of a magazine makes all women feel badly about their own bodies despite the size, shape, height or age of the viewers. A new University of Missouri-Columbia study found that all women were equally and negatively affected after viewing pictures of models in magazine ads for just three minutes.

"Surprisingly, we found that weight was not a factor. Viewing these pictures was just bad for everyone," said Laurie Mintz, associate professor of education, school and counseling psychology in the MU College of Education.

The study measured how 81 women felt about themselves, from their body weight to their hair, and then exposed some of them to neutral images, while others viewed models in magazine ads for one to three minutes. The women were evaluated after seeing the images, and in all cases, the women who viewed the models reported a drop in their level of satisfaction with their own bodies.

I don't think most emotionally healthy men OR women spend years being riddled with rage at people whose 'big crimes' are being more attractive than they are, to the point where it eats up their entire lives.

I only feel bad when I look at Aria Giovanni. Mostly because I can't have her... well and the fact she has the most perfect body I've ever seen in my life.

My experience is...

ALL women...no matter how thin, hot and sexy will invariably be heard saying "I'm fat".

My wife's body is roughly about the proportions of the photos you posted of the asian lady (minus the huge breasts). Yet, she still says she's fat. Of course, my response is "Shut up and get back to your housework!!" (just kidding)

She eats the same foods I eat and we have deserts often (cake, ice cream, etc). She eats slightly smaller portions than I do, but still stays thin (despite the fact I weigh about 60% more than she does). I think there is a lot of genetics in this thing.

Bottom line...about 50% of the population (men and women) are not perfect, but just fine the way they are. The other half are slightly overweight to massively overweight.

it really gets back to the crudy modern tendency to size people according to their suitability a sex partner-women in general have always suffered because of that crap now men are starting to be seen in the same light.

The whole point of these ads with these models is to convince women that they are not "beautiful" enough or that there is something wrong with them to create the need for whatever product they are pitching. This has been going on for years.

I think men (conciously or unconciously) have always sized up women for their real or percieved ability to produce healthy offspring. Women have always sized up men for their ability to provide food, shelter, etc for her children. There's really nothing new there. If that means men need money to be attractive rather than hunting skills and women need slender waists and large breasts...then so be it.
