Dept of Homeland Security Officials urged to resign for lie about border agents

Officials urged to resign for lie about border agents
Congressman calls for ouster of DHS deputies after IG admits agency gave false information

A Republican congressman is calling for the resignation of Department of Homeland Security officials who he says lied about the case of two Border Patrol agents imprisoned for their actions in the shooting of a drug smuggler.

As WND reported, at a congressional hearing yesterday, Rep. John Culberson of Texas confronted DHS Inspector General Richard Skinner about his agency's claim it had documentary proof of the guilt of former agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

"Richard Skinner admitted yesterday under oath that his top deputies gave members of Congress false information painting Border Patrol agents as rogue cops who were not in fear for their lives and who were 'out to shoot Mexicans,'" Culberson said in a statement.

Culberson said he believes false information was given to congressmen to "throw us off the scent and cover up what appears to be an unjust criminal prosecution of two U.S. law enforcement officers whose job was protecting our country's borders from criminals and terrorists."

Congressman Culberson Statement on Agents Ramos and Compean

Congressman Culberson issued the following statement regarding Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean following yesterday’s House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee hearing with Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Richard Skinner.

"Richard Skinner admitted yesterday under oath that his top deputies gave Members of Congress false information painting Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean as rogue cops who were not in fear for their lives and who were 'out to shoot Mexicans'.

"In my opinion, this false information was given to Members of Congress to throw us off the scent and cover-up what appears to be an unjust criminal prosecution of two U.S. law enforcement officers whose job was protecting our country’s borders from criminals and terrorists.

"Today I am calling for the resignation of the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security and the investigators who lied to us.

"So far it looks to me like Agents Ramos and Compean may not have followed proper procedure following the shooting, which at most should have resulted in their suspension from the force, but not criminal prosecution.

"At a time when Homeland Security has left our borders largely undefended and deployed national guardsman whose ‘standard operating procedure’ is ‘to retreat’ when confronted with armed criminals, the unjust prosecution of Agents Ramos and Compean weakens border security by discouraging all U.S. law enforcement officers from drawing their weapons in self-defense or in the defense of our nation.

"Our highest priority in the War on Terror is to secure our borders. These two agents need to be pardoned and we need to reassure our brave Border Patrol agents and law enforcement officers that we support them and want them to feel free to use their best judgment and whatever force they think is necessary to protect America."

Border Agent's Death Would Spark Impeachment Talks, Republican Says
By Kevin Mooney and Fred Lucas
CNSNews.com Staff Writers
February 07, 2007

(CNSNews.com) - Weeks after accusing President Bush of "shameful" behavior over the imprisonment of two Border Patrol agents who shot an unarmed suspected drug smuggler along the U.S.-Mexico border, a federal lawmaker turned up the heat further Wednesday, suggesting the president should be impeached if either of the two men is murdered in prison.

Speaking after the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that agent Ignacio Ramos was assaulted by inmates in his Mississippi prison over the weekend, California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher had a warning for the White House.

"I tell you, Mr. President, if these men -- especially after this assault -- are murdered in prison, if one of them lose their lives, there's going to be some sort of impeachment talk in Capitol Hill," he told a press conference in Washington D.C.

First they put 'Dog' Chapman in jail, and now this. This story is amazing, and it's really beginning to show people how much certain people in our government smell. Bush needs to pardon these guys, and soon.

And yes, the "Homeland security" officials (gosh, that term is creepy) should also be prosecuted or lose their jobs. I feel so awful for the families of those men, especially after one of them was beaten in jail.

You all, please sign this petition and email it to everyone!

I'm hearing more and more about this case, and I'm really worried for these guys, for their lives. There's all sorts of crap coming out, that not only did DHS officials give false testimony about these guys, but apparently there's a connection between the drug dealer and one of the guys who lied about Ramos and Compean...and apparently a few jurors were coerced into making a guilty plea. There's more coming out too, and it stinks to high heaven.

Even on the most conservative website out there (freerepublic.com) the Bush fans are starting to question why Bush has not done anything for these border agents, why they were thrown to a den of vipers, while meanwhile the drug runner is given immunity, free medical care at our expense, and is off scott free. Who is our government protecting, drug runners or our borders?

Even some of the Bushies at FR are now saying the "War on terror" sounds like meaningless rhetoric when our government is not protecting the borders, they're basically wide open.

Still looking into all the facts of this case that are coming out, but it's looking really rotten.

Let the border patrol agents rot. They deserved what they got.

You must be bored tonight. Your baiting comment is downright jojoesque.

In case you didn't understand the title of this thread - PEOPLE LIED ABOUT THE BORDER AGENTS, allegedly there's a connection between the drug runner and one of the people who lied - it's looking like these guys were railroaded.... answer me, fl, is it ok to lie under oath about someone and throw them in prison for 11 years while a drug runner illegally crossing the border gets off scott free?

Yes or no, please.

I refuse to answer complex questions in such a simplified manner. They're fallacious.

It is not okay to lie under oath.
The drug runner got off because he cut a deal.
Did they (the border patrol agents) do wrong? Yes.

I like how you call my opinion "baiting." Please, prove that it is a baiting comment or rescind your claim as the lie that it is.

fl, false testimony was given about the agents so if you're basing your statement on the story you heard, think again.

As for baiting, I used the word as an adjective, meaning it was an inflammatory comment, the type that's usually intended to get a response out of someone. Whatever though, no big deal. You've been saying a lot of outrageous things lately, we're getting used to it.

I'm going to bed.

Can't be honest and you run away when you're called on your fallacies and lies. Typical of you.

You are hilarious. Always trying to create drama. Drama, drama, drama! Where did I lie? I did feel your comment was inflammatory and that you want people to respond. Stop being a drama queen and derailing threads left and right.

Who's derailing? You're the one whining about bogus claims and trying to employ fallacious logic.

Why don't you grow a backbone and stop running away from every debater who doesn't automatically agree with you?
Or how about you address the substance of my post instead of pushing it off topic. Queens are annoying and you're no exception.

But hey, you also said you were going to bed.

Your drama queen antics are getting old and boring. I'm not leaving for the reasons you seem to think, do you want me to just be blunt? I don't feel like talking to you right now, this conversation is lame, it's 4:15 am, I need to go to bed.

Is it possible for you to just say, "ok, goodnight lily" and be cool? Or will there be more drama queen antics in a minute from now. Give it a rest.

Christ. Are you two eight? You sound like pre-teens with vocabularies, used to thinly veil 'nu-uh, your stupid' comments.

Regarding the border agents--I really dont care, for numerous ethical reasons pre-determined by their job choice and actions, regardless of why.

Leftist whining.

Threatening the president. Nice.

Fug Tancredo. Fug Ramos and his pal.

Stick that in your baiting bucket.
