Yeah, that thread was a monster.
i sometimes think that it is. but, i don't go in the debates section anymore. i used to spend most of my time in there (when mr rep was still here) or in my journal.
now i just post nonsense threads.
perhaps i've killed the board with the nonsense threads.
Not that many people have been posting...so in a way, yeah.
And there's no sense crying

Too many bannings make for a dull board
Bring back Samson/Bogey, Mandrake, Thumper and some of the other colorful folks who made convos/debates animated and fun. A bit more tolerance of DIVERSITY would solve the problem.

What kind of "diversity" do those individuals represent? Not ideological, certainly. They were indeed pretty unique in terms of civility or respect for the TOS, but I'm pretty sure that's not a type of diversity the staff wants to encourage. What you call "animated and fun" others call abuse.

I have addressed this issue Ad Nauseum in other threads. IMO, there is a difference between teasing/sarcasm/rhetorical banter and real personal attacks. Not everyone's flavor of the former has universal appeal - but it is quite easy just to ignore people/not read their posts. The fact that a not insignificant amount of people are unhappy about their bannings indicates that their participation did add to the DA experience.

I've never reported anyone for anything and never will. When you ban people from an internet site it turns into a little club. If it were up to me I would ban the whiners.

They were indeed colorful-if their humour was edgy,so what? there's worse stuff on TV-none of them were mean to the kids. I'm glad Pappy gets a pass but it's inconsistent when she does the same thing they do.Everyone seems to appreciate that she's fun to have around-even if she does get on some people's nerves-more clemency...
