"George Bush killed a million people" is a random unsubstantiated rant, not a cogent argument. The paper doesn't even attempt to back up this ridiculous accusation nor does it even come close to justifying its title. Where are the source notes? Where is the evidence/facts to back up these hysterical claims? Its a very poorly written diatribe, not a paper suitable for submission at ANY school at ANY grade level.

You write these kinds of things on the internet, not for a school paper. You guys shouldn't be encouraging her just because you like the fact that she is smearing George Bush. If you really want to help her, tell her the truth and encourage her to change her paper in order to learn and get a better grade.

Spaz, as of now I don't see you getting a very good grade on this paper based on the afore mentioned criteria. If you would like some help on it, send me a PM and let me know.

Er, What? The statement "George Bush killed 1 million people" is a factual statement (albeit a factually incorrect statement), not an opinion. You have to back up such statements with evidence or proof.

If you think the report sucks, just say so. Don't try to make me out as stupid because we don't share the same oppinion.
It has nothing to do with your opinion. You can't just claim someone killed a million people without backing it up. Thats called slander you know. Its actually illegal.

As far as you being homeschooled, it is unfortunate if the only thing you are being taught is that "George Bush killed a million people." Is this what your parents have told you? Because its a lie. You need to learn basic skills, you don't need to be brainwashed with such obviously false information.

And don't belittle the children, it's not gentlemanly like conduct. Show some class.
No. She did a poor job. I think its more gentlemanly to tell her the truth so that she reconsiders her topic and rewrites the paper and learns more and gets a better grade than to support just because she is part of the anti-Bush cult.

What does math have to do with any of this? Do you also believe George Bush killed a million people? Then back that statement up. You think this is the stuff kids should be taught in school or while being home schooled? And this helps them how?

Heres proof to one point. Could you name the others you'd like proof for? I'd be more than happy to post my sources

When I showed the report to my teacher (my mom), she pointed out my mistake that our original goal of the war was to capture Saddam--she said thats an oppinion, not fact,so I acknowledge my mistake.
Opinion only has one p in it. Just telling you so you will learn and become a better speller.

I will not, however, change my paper. I already turned it in, so there is no longer a need to re-write it.
I hope you took out the part about George Bush killing a million people. If I were a teacher that line alone would cost you 20 point. You can't just make up facts like that.

Spaz, you're ok in my book.

Just remember to keep an open mind to those who also have an open mind. I'm glad you have an opinion at all about politics at your age. I'm sure you've given it some thought, and as you read more and think more about it your views will evolve. I didn't realize you were home-schooled, can I ask the reason why?

It is your opinion that she did a poor job on the report. This does not mean you are correct in any way, it just shows you have an opinion. There is a difference. If she chooses to be an advocate against Bush it is her right as an American citizen to exercise it.
Your put-downs & insults do not make you appear more intelligent...they reveal the small man you really are.

Actually no its a fact. Any unbiased teacher would have given that paper a poor grade.

No, it shows I'm not part of the anti-Bush cult and willing to speak the truth.

    Straw man.

What put-downs? Stop making things up. She asked for advice on her paper, not for you all to drool all over it because it smears Bush.

I really dont know why people continue to support him? He will probably be known as the worst president in HISTORY ever.

I don't think I said "George Bush killed a million people". What I was saying was, between 9/11 and the war, millions of people died while he was president. Or thats what I was trying to say, anyway.

Thank you.I never mind someone pointing out a spelling error, since spelling is my weakness.

Thank you. If I had a book, you'd be ok in it, too

I went to public school for kindergarden. At the time, we lived in a pretty bad part of town, and shootings had occured more than once at the middle/high schools. So, for the next year, my parents decided to homeschool me. I enjoyed it, so we kept it up.

Lol no. FDR, Carter, Nixon were FAR worse. I would say overall Bush was a good president, but not great.

Making up ridiculous smears like "Bush killed a million people" indicates you are partisan. Bush hasn't killed anyone. If he had, he would be impeached and tried for his crimes.

You are the one who brought up algebra.

No I don't believe Bush is a murderer and my post doesn't suggest otherwise.

I think kids should be taught to come up with opinions based on their understanding of the issues. However, I would not be so critical of a 13 year old who is trying her best to write down her thoughts. My approach is to be more encouraging is all because I have found that it works better for the learning process to keep students confidence high.
