how do you figure? okay, maybe not the dealer, but the person who gives a crack head money to buy a rock. you enable their behavior. you tell them its okay to kill yourself slowly. you lie to them. its not okay to be obese. so what's the difference?

I think often people's impulse is to see someone or something as disgusting regardless of how or why that person or thing came to be that way.

Assume the best, it's only right because you would want the same done to you.
the people who are obes because of a medical condition are such a small minority that chances are you'll never meet one.

I would classify them as PROFITEERING ENABLERS. They tell people it is okay to be morbidly obese while stuffing the cash register.

you'd say , but you'd be wrong, where are you getting your facts anyway? how do you know that the people whose weight is a result of something medical are few? are you a scientist or do you just watch alot of television?

why is it that large parents have large children? it seems to me with the amount of large children I have seen coming from large parents, that something of it has to do with genes as opposed to lifestyle

There is a Vast Difference between Large and Morbidly Obese.

well, for one thing i do work in healthcare, i'm a paramedic. beyond that though, medicine is an area of great interest to me. i've seen many people with thyroid problems who manage to keep from weighing 600 lbs. there are many people out there with all kinds of medical problems that some use as an excuse to let themselves go who manage to stay at a reasonable weight.

hmmm...that's a tuffy....what could cause parents and kids to be fat...
just a guess, but maybe the fact that families eat the same things and generally have the same lifestyle. think about it. where is learned behavior learned? from parents. yes, genes can make you more succeptable to weight gain and other health problems, but its far from an absolute certainty. there is a saying, genes loads the gun, but you pull the trigger.

My point was with the amount of large children coming from large parents, to me it seems almost without exception, there must be something of genes involved. Not all the large kids I know eat poorly.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I would agree that not encouraging obesity is more loving/caring than enabling it, since it is a condition that is unhealthy and can kill people.

Anybody else noticed that by and large (if you'll pardon the expression) plump girls generally act sexier, and seem more confident about their appeal than skinny girls who are mostly negative about themselves? And who have the cutest faces, huh? For me, obese lacks appeal as does skinny.

Hourglass works for me. Give me an obvious waist and lotsa jiggling when subjected to repetitive forces.

It's because those fat people don't give a damn, that's how they got fat to start with. The scrawny girls are skinny because they do care about what people think and they try to make themselves look better yet still think they aren't good enough. Neither of those is healthy behavior.

That's what most people like. Though there are some people who dig anorexic skeleton women and some who have fat fetishes but hey everyone is entitiled to their own opinion.

Not encouraging obesity in those that can't help it is not love at all. If you actually see the disorder(eating too much and not exercising) then yes, don't encourage that, but to discourage people from being large is wrong.

Things aren't always so plain and clear as they seem.

We should accept people for who they are but we shouldn't accept or encourage harmful lifestyles.

Let's just say in an extreme example (such as one of my cousins) she was couldn't exersize for years. She had a back injury in a car wreck. BUT she did not try to help herself. She just wanted to give up. She did not leave her house for 4 years and would guilt trip family members into buying 6 cheeseburgers for dinner for her everynight and guilt them into buying junk food like candy and soda and buying cigarettes for her. She died weighing 560 pounds. She did not get that way over night. It was through years of poor diet and lack of movement and the family appeasing her lifestyle. They could have saved her if they had put her into some kind of weight loss program and forced her to stick with it but they were just too "nice" to her and she wasn't willing to try. The fatter she got the harder it became to move. They killed her with kindness.

I disagree. It's not healthy whether it's caused by too much eating, or by some problem that was beyond their control. So if there is a medical way to help them, then that would be the right thing to do. Enabling or encouraging something that is unhealthy and could cause the person's death is not loving or caring.
