Damn DHM, you said it all, I couldn't agree with you more..

Now why people still choose to support the biggest failure the US government has ever undertaken is beyond me.

So only government approved ways to relax should be allowed?

I dont need drugs to relax. I dont need the government to tell me how to relax. Me not taking drugs is a choice based on observations I have seen. What I have seen isnt good.

Ive seen drugs break up families, push away friends, screw up careers.

A kid I went to school with died from an overdose. Died on school grounds.

Exactly, neither do I (I don't do drugs btw), and nobody should have it dictated to them by the government, that goes against the principles this country was founded on.

Ive seen drugs break up families, push away friends, screw up careers.

It wasn't the drugs, it was the person, drugs don't go forcing themselves upon people. Just like guns don't do the killing, the guy pulling the trigger does.

I think people that use hard drugs and screw up their lives would do so anyway through other means if they also didn't do drugs. Drugs seem to be an easy scapegoat for people who can't deal with life.

And... You've seen this happen right, and they are currently [illegal]. So how has illegality helped the situation?

A kid I went to school with died from an overdose. Died on school grounds.

And college kids routinely od from alcohol, but that's ok because....?

That is also another arguement for legalization, maybe if that kid had taken legal drugs that weren't smuggled in from God knows where that had proper usage instructions on them he would still be alive.

Think of this, would you buy a quart of Orange Juice in a old thermos from a bum in an alley? Never know what could be in it. But you are pretty confident in the OJ you buy from the grocery store right?

One thing about the whole enlightenment thing, I agree with Aesir, if you don't know, it's hard to explain

Seems like the best musicians were all heavy drug users, maybe there is something to it.. And maybe many of them would still be alive if they weren't using Black market drugs..

I was thinking in the abstract. From the above remarks we do apparently agree that drugs in and of themselves are not the problem.

    I like drugs.

Good drugs make me happy. Bad drugs make me sad.

Now if only I can persuade you to vote GOP.

There are no words to explain.
    It is enlightening.
If you want a different plain of reality, take LSD.

I'd love to hear about some of these enlightenments that have come from peoples' drug use.

How have those enlightenments changed your lives? Do you make use of them in your day to day routine? Do they make as much sense once the drug has worn off?

The psychedelic era ended 35 years ago. Most people who participated regret doing so.

That is because most of them point out memory problems as a result of "Too much fun in the 70's" When in all actuality it is due to the fact that they are just getting friggin old!

    Things to do today:
    1.) Insult People.

Let's see if your opinion on that changes in another ten or twenty years.

My dad took part in that era in a big way (and still does on occasion). He's smart, bright, quick....

You're right, drugs can effect you in the long run. So can too many hamburgers and breathing Los Angeles air. Again, not a reason for illegalization at all.

Hi! I enjoyed reading the various posts.
The question posed, "are drugs bad for you" really comes down to what DHM, and a couple of others mentioned.
The real question though, is the war on drugs money well spent ?
No!
People are under the delusion that a successful solution requires more bureaucracies, the building of more prisons, the hiring of more law enforcement officers, the perpetuation of "feel good" educational programs, and the enactment of stronger laws, even though these actions provide a temporary sense of relief. It does, however, provide gov't employment and a waste of tax dollars.
All of these issues/programs have been implemented over the years and nothing has improved..if anything, it's become worse..why? because the war on drugs is a lie.

Tenacious makes a good point. People argue (and with good reason) that the "war on drugs" is a lie and a major wate of time, manpower and money. That has nothing at all to do with whether or not drugs are good or bad for you. Many of the pro-drug people will try to connect the two (they argue "the war on drugs is a waste, therefore drugs should be legal and so drugs are good") even though the two are two completely different and separate questions.

they ruin your life, suck up all your time and money, and **** up yoru brain. nuff said

I used drugs for a while and knew quite a few people who did. I had a friend who died from a drug related incident, friends who ended up in rehab, friends who had their lives ruined in differant ways, but by far the worst are the friends who fried their brains. I've seen people develop irrational phobias, constant depression,
paranoia and the like. I've seen people drop out of college and get arrested and go to jail. I've seen girls have 3 abortions after getting ****ed up and having sex.
