Obama to extend FISA (warrantless wiretaps)

The Senate on Friday reauthorized for five years broad electronic eavesdropping powers that legalized and expanded the President George W. Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program.

The FISA Amendments Act, which was expiring Friday at midnight, allows the government to electronically eavesdrop on Americans’ phone calls and e-mails without a probable-cause warrant so long as one of the parties to the communication is believed outside the United States. The communications may be intercepted “to acquire foreign intelligence information.”

The House approved the measure in September. President Barack Obama, who said the spy powers were a national security priority, is expected to quickly sign the package before the law Congress codified in 2008 expires in the coming hours. Over the past two days, the Senate debated and voted down a handful of amendments in what was seen as largely political theater to get Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) to lift a procedural hold on the FISA Amendments Act legislation that barred lawmakers from voting on the package.

In the end, the identical package the House passed 301-118 swept through the Senate on a 73-23 vote.

Once again, Obama and the democrats do what liberals claim to hate.

Scandal? The government dispatched more firepower to arrest Nakoula Basseley Nakoula in Los Angeles than it did to protect its mission in Benghazi.

I'm completely off the grid. Even a skip tracer can't find me. The outdoors are my soccer field so good luck with that Samson sock puppet because your NiG Ger in chiefs jackboots will be raiding an empty house.

FISA is not a Bush policy. Its dates back to Carter. You know... a very liberal democrat.

    Oh yeah....tax cuts
Actually Obama did embrace the Bush tax cuts and made them his evil policy when he extended the cuts into law in 2010. But I won't attempt to stop you from writing your own history on both counts.

If the "terrorists" hate us "for our freedoms," it has now whithered to a mild dislike.
Quando vem a madrugada, meu pensamento vagueia
Corro os dedos na viola, contemplando a lua cheia
Apesar de tudo existe, uma fonte de água pura
Quem beber daquela água, não terá mais amargura

Liberals don't actually seem to mind a government that intrudes on your personal liberties...as long as they control it. When it's under the control of Republicans, they call it Nazism, totalitarianism, etc.

It is difficult to believe the vast majority of people don't see right through this shit...but they're idiots. My evidence is that they elected all the same motherfuckers to run the country. Nice job.

That's the problem with giving the government "temporary" powers. They're never temporary. This and the patriot acts were all written in stone as soon as those assholes passed them.

That's why it was a bad idea to pass them.
"All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell [the bible] teaches us how to run all our public policy and everything in society." Rep. Paul Broun (R)

"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!" -- Jerry Falwell

The irony overload is enough to warp space and time itself

The exact same fools who I debated for years , here and elsewhere, during the Bush regime over warrant-less wiretaps , the "patriot" act , expansion of the "imperial" executive branch , erosion of 4th amendment protections etc etc now are all born-again ACLU'ers when the jack-boot is on the other foot.

These wingnuts now complain about the same gov't they supported and created

Wireless wire taps have been around since Jimmy Carter and the democrats enacted FISA years before Bush was around. In case you missed one of the biggest cases using a warrant less wire tap it happen under Clinton against an American citizen Aldrich Ames. You know the government liberals loved and supported.

Cry in your beer Java man...
