WOW! The Return of American Exceptionalism

Stroke of genius having Clint Eastwood on that stage tonight.

Rubio's story couldn't be more demonstratative of American Exceptionalism...one generation from banquet bartender to United States Senator from one of the most populous states in the nation.

Mitt says to Putin "more backbone".

Mitt pledges support to our allies Poland and Israel.

America is great and Mitt, unlike Obama, is not going to apologize for that!!!

    1. Clint would make a better president than ROmney.

    2. Mick threatening other countries suggests he is a limp wristed, double gated war monger.

    3. Mick pleging support for racist, apartheid regimes suggests he is a limp wristed, double gated, neocon, zionist war monger.

Freedom and liberty is more important than the insane religious fantasies!

on your final point I agree, but Obama is limp wristed war monger for the sand people and that should be sufficient to want him out.

Eastwood wouldn't be a better president because politics, especially international politics are not scripted. He wasn't really successful as a Mayor.

Romney didn't threaten other countries...just said that we are going to stop emulating the pussy Frenchies and lying down on allies.

Your hatred of Jews, your anti-semitism really, clouds the fact that even though Israel has had nukes for decades no one has ever worried that they would want to use them on the USA.

But Pakistan, India, China, Russia, and now, especially Iran there has ALWAYS been a concern that they would use them on the USA.

This thread confirms my perception that it's the really unexceptional (mediocre, average or below) people who tend to use the entirely meaningless cliche "American Exceptionalism." In my experience, people who use this particular slogan are expressing their own stupidity more than anything else.

This post confirms that the poster uses the fallacious argument of attacking the poster and not the post.

    Bravo.

Let's attack the premise of "American Exceptionalism", then. We can start by asking questions, some of which are rhetorical:
-Why must a country be exceptional above all others?
-How does a country achieve exceptionalism? By rule of law and prosperity? That is reasonable on it's face. By military dominance? Colonialism at it's worst. We were not founded to be an Empire, and I believe the founding fathers would roll in their graves if they knew how we sometimes exercise our use of force in the world.
-What is the responsibility of the exceptional nation? To avoid the traps of the privileged. As a wealthy family must guard against it's newest generation falling into wastrel habits, so must the nation guard against the enemies of the Republic. Most of those enemies stare at us in the mirror, just as the weaknesses of the wealthy family are mostly internal.

I think the entire point to those kind of group celebrations is to make people who are wholly unexceptional feel exceptional anyway. "<Ingroup> is <positive quality>, and I'm <ingroup>, so I'm clearly <positive quality>". That way pathetic people can feel tehy have positive traits simply by being a member of the ingroup.
"All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell [the bible] teaches us how to run all our public policy and everything in society." Rep. Paul Broun (R)

"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!" -- Jerry Falwell
