Yes, well, there's a reason no decent, sane person will go near running for public office, and political forums like this are great examples of why that is, regardless of which 'side' you're on. I stopped "going to the meetings" in 2007. After 25 years in the party it had become unrecognizable to me; the GOP of my day wasn't attractive to people like Akin. The extremists were on the outside of the mainstream, apparently working to become the core of the New Republican Guard of today.

I support an empirically based approach to biology and in particular to the question of whether rape victims can get pregnant. They can. The chances of someone getting pregnant from non-consensual sex appear to be the same as for consensual sex.

I support not forcing a traumatised rape victim to carry an unwanted child to term, thereby being revictimised and further traumatised for nine months - then having to decide whether to keep or adopt out the child (if the latter is possible), suffering more trauma either way. I don't even know what's worse - killing a foetus or forcing someone to be born unloved to a woman who is reminded of her rape whenever she sees her unwanted child.

I support men not making fucking stupid comments about women's bodies. I support gender equality. I support the radical idea that non-consensual sex is a terrible and horrific thing, and that women are raped by men far too often.

Too much of the American right falls into ranting anti-woman lunacy. This is an example.
