Slew of Obama supporters seeking legal claims are expected after refinery fire

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Chevron Corp. is bracing for an onslaught of legal claims after one of its Northern California refineries caught fire and sent thousands of people to area hospitals with complaints about respiratory problems and other ailments.

The San Ramon-based oil giant opened a claim center Friday in Richmond, and says it has received more than 2,000 calls to a claims hotline.

Richmond lawyer and Nick Haney*, who has had long lines outside his office, says he expects to represent about 3,000 residents with legal claims. Haney says he hopes to negotiate a settlement with the company before filing lawsuits.**

Nearly everyone who sought medical attention immediately after the Monday evening fire at Chevron's Richmond refinery was treated and released after spending a few hours at the hospital.
It should read *Nick Haney ambulance chaser **(along with a 30-40% for legal fees, I bet he is.)

If they were treated and released, what is their complaint beside sticking Chevron for some easy cash. I think every welfare cheat in the county will be filing soon whether they were effected or not.

Yes, perhaps we should limit claims. To protect Chevron's bottom line. And Chevron won't do it again, promise. We shouldn't have to pay real money for this fuckup. After all, everyone has to pay for it at the pump.

    Duzzatsumitupforya?

Seriously, this industry is a tired old dog. If they were investing even 10% of their net budget into alternative, sustainable energy sources, I'd be in favor of limiting claims while Chevron is making the transition. If they, like most all other oil companies, are just trying to exploit petroleum resources while ignoring the need to make any transition to sustainable energy, then let Chevron suffer a thousand blood sucking ticks, in the form of "ambulance chasers".

I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE WELFARE FOLKS WERE TOLD BY A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER TO GET OUT OF THE TAXPAYER PAID FOR APARTMENTS AND DOWN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR SOME TAXPAYER PAID ASPIRIN TO DOCUMENT THE EVENT FOR THE LAWSUITS!

It pretty hard for Chevron or any other non renewable company to invest in any transition energy because of all the environmental regulations and the pressure from environmentalist. Look at the everything from wind power to solar power that the environmentalist are against.
When Companies try to invest in tar sands, clean coal plants, nuclear, bio-fuel plants, building new oil refineries they meet resistances from environmentalists and Democrats at every turn and if they have trouble stopping them they just throw out more regulations. Take Keystone and Yucca Mountain for example.

Compared with the environmental regs they go up against, just to keep up with the petroleum market? Petroleum regs are more difficult that renewable energy regs, unless you would like to post a reliable link that demonstrates the contrary.
