In this day and age of institutional racist policies (zionist regime, affirmative action, etc.) what % of each race qualifies for the various financial benefits of being in the non-White catagory? Like what if it says 1% jew and or African or Native Indian? Can I still get preferential treatment and $$$?

Are you trying to move to Israel or something? Since your mother is Jewish (at least on her mom's side), you're qualified to move to Israel and the Israeli gov't will help you out too, probably.

I'm part Native American and I don't get any special treatment; of course I don't want any either and I totally disagree with the casino's. You'd have to be a tribal member and you'd have to have more than a 1% link for that.

When I was in college in the '70s a fellow in one of my classes, a fair-haired, blue-eyed young man with an Irish last name, was getting a monthly federal stipend while he was in school. He was, for college purposes, a "Native American". One of his great-grandmothers was an Apache, which made him 1/8 Native American, more than the 1/16 needed to qualify for a federal education grant at the time.

It sounds like to get the financial breaks, we really need documentation. Unless someone can link some standardized DNA identifying system that is generally accepted, the entire DNA ethnic identity thing is pretty random. Basically a fancy fingerprint, not a means to uncover ancient, ethnic heritage. Again if anyone has any clarification, please post it.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree. If you want a piece of Indian casino revenue or any other tribal perk, you need to prove to the tribe that you qualify as a member. It's them, not the feds, you have to persuade.

I was really just curious if DNA could provide ethnic identity info and any financial side effect would be okay. When we look at the migrations of humanoids over the history of humanoidkind, it is understandably difficult.

The DNA testing I've read about gives primarily geographic info. For instance, it may show that 60% of you may have originated in northern Europe, 18% in Asia (thanks to Ghengis Khan), 8% in northern Africa, 6% in the Mideast, and the residual from scattered areas around the globe. Something like that. Unless the provider is affiliated with a database, it's not necessarily going to tell you what peoples, or what individuals, you may share blood with. What I mean by that is it may not be as detailed as telling you that you have German ancestry specifically, just northern European.

If you go for it, spring for a provider that has such a database and can tell you the most about what your sample indicates. It'll cost a few hundred bucks, but it'll be interesting.

I have family records that show everything I need to know going back to the 1700s (England -> North America) and knowing the family names of my ancestors tells me where their people were from (Wales and England, primarily, including the north country where they picked up some Viking blood way back when). Onomastics is a hobby of mine and that has helped me identify much of my roots just from my family names going back many generations.

Well,I recently found out that my maternal grandfather (who died decades before I was born) immigated to the US from Germany and never bothered to learn English,he only spoke in German.

It's possible that either he and/or my maternal grandmother (who preceded him in death) were Jewish, but changed their name and religion at Ellis Island to avoid the persecution they had in the old country(that did happen a lot back then).

Maybe something like that is in your background too.

I doubt it, my ancestors have been traced back to the Mayflower on one side and a signer of the Decoration if Independence on the other. I also have 1/8th Native American as my grandmother was 1/2 Georgia Cherokee.

Actually I have no problem with Jews in general and have stated that in the past, its the racist state of Israel policies I have a problem with and radical Jews who support Israels apartheid policies..
