Looks like having a triple crown winner in each league has only happened once, in 1933.
A batter wins the Triple Crown when he leads his league or the Majors in home runs, RBIs and batting average. There have been 14 Triple Crown winners in Major League history. Rogers Hornsby and Ted Williams did it twice.
1878 Paul Hines
1887 Tip O'Neill
1894 Hugh Duffy
1901 Nap Lajoie
1909 Ty Cobb
1922 Rogers Hornsby
1925 Rogers Hornsby
1933 Jimmie Foxx
1933 Chuck Klein
1934 Lou Gehrig
1937 Joe Medwick
1942 Ted Williams
1947 Ted Williams
1956 Mickey Mantle
1966 Frank Robinson
1967 Carl Yastrzemski

I am (unfortunately) old enough to recall Robinson's and Yaz's, if it counts. He tied with Killebrew for most home runs, 44. It was an impossible, almost, year for him. He played left and carried the Dead Sox to the AL Pennant.
Bob Gibson won 3 games in the WS and they lost to, well, literally Bob Gibson, 4 games to 3.
One wonders: Will we see another Triple Crown winner in the next 20 years? No one seems to be able to muster it. Josh Hamilton is unable to stop beating his wife and doing coke long enough to fulfill his enormous potential.
Who else? Maybe we'll see another one.
