Supreme Court upholds virttually all of Obamacare - full text of Opinion and Dissents

The Supreme Court merely changed the name of the "mandate" to call it a "tax".

Full text of the Opinion and Dissent can be found here:
    http://www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt/text/11-393

The upshot is, in a few years, most people will find it most economical to drop their insurance intirely, and only pay the mandated "tax", until they get sick.

Once they get sick or injured, then they can sign up for "insurance", and the company is forced to take them despite their "pre-existing" sickness or injury. They can stay signed up, paying the higher "insurance" rate, until they are cured, then drop the insurance and go back to paying only the lower "tax".

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

At least until Congress raises the "tax"... which they will one minute after midnight pretty soon.

    And Wall Street reacts

Stocks Tumble 1% After Health-Care Ruling

    We're fucked

Scandal? The government dispatched more firepower to arrest Nakoula Basseley Nakoula in Los Angeles than it did to protect its mission in Benghazi.

Stocks opened lower amid concerns over Europe's economic woes. Since the SC announcement, health care stocks have jumped, 5%-10%.

More good news for the private sector.

    Chachma's right about the stocks.

But Caddis is right that we're fucked. Hopefully, this leads to massive civil unrest or an economic collapse or something.

And this is exactly what's wrong with the right wing mindset.

Sure. People will now be forced to buy their products, whether they want to or not.

Grand Theft always has adherents -namely the people who will receive the stolen goods. They like it just fine. Of course their stocks went up.

    Everything else crashed.

If we're fucked, what's wanting our demise to be entertaining?

Also, I'm hardly "right wing" on this issue. I do believe Americans are too heterogeneous, stupid, and irresponsible to handle socialized medicine in a way that doesn't bankrupt the country -- but generally speaking, I think it's a good idea.

If your description of Americans is accurate, they definitely need the guarantees provided by our health care plan.

Socialized medicine is an entirely different subject, but you can see how it works in the US by looking into Veterans Health Services.

So wait, does this mean you now support a genuine universal health care system? One supported and funded entirely by taxation? Like in Canada and most of the rest of the developed world?

Grand Theft always has adherents -namely the people who will receive the stolen goods. They like it just fine. Of course their stocks went up.

    Everything else crashed.
Again, everything else "crashed" as a result of something happening half way around the world on which 'Obamacare' has had exactly zero impact.
Howard Cosell: “What's right isn't always popular. What's popular isn't always right.”

James Madison: “In Republics, the great danger is, that the majority may not sufficiently respect the rights of the minority”

Abraham Lincoln: “If by the mere force of numbers a majority should deprive a minority of any clearly written constitutional right, it might, in a moral point of view, justify revolution”

All who support governmental totalitarian overreach deserve a bullet to the head.

Too true, which is why no one who supports this measure deserves a bullet to the head...right?
Show us not the aim without the way, for ends and means on earth are so entangled
That changing one, you change the other too; each different path brings other ends in view

    Angry

This is a bad day for America. The tyrannical federal government has completely taken away our ability to run our own lives just so the filthy boomer generation can get their medication. The constitution is gone. All that remains are a few amendments that are constantly under attack. What will they mandate next? Flu shots? AmeriKA is now an authoritarian state. Off to go buy a flag so I can burn it.

Supreme Court Injustice Roberts should have his own Nick Berg video presentation.

You never know. That's up to congress, not the health care program's administrators.

Goddammit, Chachma. Stop being so measured and logical in your responses.

Now is not the time for that. Now is the time to light something on fire and kick it down the street.
