    WTF phone call?

Phone rings I answer cause I'm expecting my daughter to check in from a friends house. Go ahead laugh youngun's I still have a land line. Anyhoo I say Hello and I hear what sounds like a five year old kid mumbling something. Thinking it's my daughters friends little sister I stay on the line and keep saying what? What? Then maybe around the third time of trying to understand the kid an adult finally picks up:

Adult: are you the chinese place?

Me: uh no you have the wrong number

Adult: do you know the Number for the Chinese place?

Me: Are you kiddin meh?? and I hang up.

WTF was that? I live in a metropolitan area with 1000 Chinese places to choose from and you want me to give you the number of a specific place when you don't even know the name? Call 411 and you might want to get a speech therapist for the kid, he talks like he has marbles in his mouth.

When I worked for the utility company years ago I'd occasionally get a call for The 4 Queens Hotel, whose number was similar to mine.

"Huh? Is this the 4 Queens?"

"No, but close. Their number is 385-4011. You misdialed."

    "Oh, thanks."

Maybe the caller thought you got enough wrong calls to know the correct number.

Another time I answered the phone and a woman said, "My name is Linda Martinez. I'm in the city jail on a charge of prostitution. Can you bail me out?"

I explained who she'd reached and that it was a wrong number and then, out of curiosity, went to the yellow pages for bail bond services and found one with a phone number which, like the hotel, was just one digit different than my number. I kept that other number in mind in case I got another call like that.

I looked but couldn't find a number that was even close to ours.

We don't answer the phone anymore. That's what the machine is for. Most of what we were/are getting are robocalls from political campaigns, charities and sales recordings. When we did still answer we got a lot of calls from people who spoke only Spanish, but I don't know who they were trying to reach. As soon as I heard them greet me in Spanish I'd say "número equivocado" and they'd hang up.
