Why are thin people not fat?

We know what fat people are fat but why aren't thin people fat? Is it discipline and will power? Genetics? Upbringing?

Fat people only consume replacement calories too.
Notice that 250 pound lady at the office? She's fat. But she's also been 250 for about five years.

You asked why thin people aren't fat. It's be cause we consume only replacement calories. If we ate more calories than we needed, we wouldn't be thin.

What fat people might do is not relevant to your question.

You didn't ask about why fat people stay fat. You asked why thin people aren't fat.

If she stays at 250 lbs she is consuming replacement calories that she needs to maintain her weight.

Exactly. The answer may apply to more than one question. In particular, it applies to the question asked.

there is no universal answer. It is a combination of reasons that vary from person to person. Someone may be thin primarily because of their metabolism or because of the amount of exercise they do. Regardless it's never exclusively one reason and some people require more discipline than others.

It's also important to note that just because someone is thin doesn't mean their cholesterol level can't be as bad or worse than someone who is overweight.

I know, but I asked a new, different question in post #5.

The answer to that is, "not any more". She used to, that's how she got fat.

So she must be eating more calories than the thin person; If true, then why doesn't she get fatter and fatter and fatter?

Did she start eating less when she hit 250 in this hypothetical example? Or does she eat the same amount at 250 as she did at say 180?

You're asking me to define your question? Why?

Anyone who consumes fewer calories than they burn will lose body fat, then muscle mass. Anyone who consumes the same number of calories as they burn will neither gain nor lose weight. Anyone who consumes more calories than they burn will gain weight.

    This isn't rocket surgery, Charles.

Metabolism may be a factor in keeping her at 250 lbs while eating the same as a thinner person but it still comes back to the calories in/calories out answer. Muscle burns more calories than adipose tissue.

Sometimes the concept isn't rocket science. Sometimes the complexity isn't brain surgery. At no time is it rocket surgery - that's always true, no matter how simple the point is you're trying to get across.

Not necessarily true. Calories in = calories burned + calories stored (weight gain) + calories wasted (waste)

That's why two people can eat the same amount and one can gain weight and the other may not. One person can waste more while the other can store more.

An intelligent, well thought out response, lacking of hate that those like cha cha boy seem to extol.

Explain how calories can be stored weightlessly.
