I've been to Alaska as far north as Denali and I've been to the Canadian Arctic and hung out with the native Inuit people and have had my feet in the Arctic Ocean.

In the summer, you do have warm temperatures and 24-hour daylight above the arctic circle, so it's hardly cold or dark that time of year.

But that time of year is rather short...

I have no desire to see the pyramids. Muslim countries are too dangerous.

Florida - too hot. I don't fish, play golf or any of that stuff and if I really wanted to visit a Disney park I'd go to California
Italy - I lived there long enough.
Japan - It would be a pain in the ass diet wise and I'm not really interested in Japanese culture. I'd rather go to Burma, Thailand or India.
Caribbean nations - too hot and too prone to natural disasters. Without the wildlife diversity of Africa or Australasia. No thanks.

    The pyramids are fantastic...
In terms of murder rates, the USA seems to rank much higher than Egypt.

I'll grant you that Cairo can be more excitement than you might want.

The Dharfur reagion of Sudan is high on my list.

Afghanistan or Iraq (until things calm down at least)

    Saudi Arabia

    Singapore

    Las Vegas - Too superficial.

Any part of Florida outside of Miami and the Keys - Too many right wing Bible beaters and Republicans. Orlando is especially obnoxious and really, if you are not a kid there is not that much to do there besides Epcot Center which is good for only a day.

Alaska. It's too cold for me. I'm an old desert rat and I love the hot weather. I love Hawaii, like one of the posts said you can smell the flowers and Hawaii is beautiful.

I agree with you these two places are popular but you don't want to go there. There are very few locations I wouldn't go to if I were compensated to do so. Not far too inquisitive about China or Russia and some European countries.

"Our family vacation was like we never even left town" said a neighbor.

Americans are all just about alike insofar as traveling abroad to see the sights. They book a fancy hotel on a beach with a swimming pool and seldom even use the beach itself. They go on a guided group tour of the vicinity and all they see is artificial, staged, synthetic natives who are not even authentic -- they're just putting on a show for the gullible gringos.

Moreover, when American tourists go out on the local town, they all go to familiar, franchised places which are nothing but a carbon copy of what is in their home towns -- Mc Donalds, Pizza Hut, etc. Then they all go shopping at ... Sears! They may as well have simply booked a hotel in their hometown. With all these international franchises you can travel almost all the globe and it's about the same as never even leaving home!

If you want to see native authenticity and see how natives really do live, go to some way out of the way place where all the squeamish American and Japanese tourists seldom go. May I suggest an extremely remote, natural and remote place which is really refreshing and you can be relax and "get away from it all." And both transportation, lodging and food is extremely affordable. It's called the Bocas del Toro region of the Republic of Panama in Central America. Google it.

I have to agree with Charles - I have no desire to go to Hawaii. Paris is also on that list. When I traveled to Greece, I avoided Athens. There is so much more to see than Athens.
