Does "God Bless America" bug you?

First of all, am I supposed to agree with it or something? If a agree with it, do I accept the existence of god? If I disagree with it, am I somehow un-American?

What the heck does it mean anyway?

I've never liked the song...

had to sing it every morning in elementary school back in the early 60's...

what bothered me then (and still does) is that it's very much inferior to "Star Spangled Banner" and "America The Beautiful"...

in particular, the line "... to the oceans white with foam" always struck me as the stupidest lyric ever, especially with it being included in the finishing stanza... for no other reason except that "foam" rhymes with "home"...

and now, following 9/11, it's sung during the seventh-inning stretch at every baseball game... which bugs the living shit outta me...

Most of them though scarcely all. I would also prefer america the Beautiful. Twas the late Kate Smith popularized the tune.
