nope not in the least.
First of all, am I supposed to agree with it or something? If a agree with it, do I accept the existence of god? If I disagree with it, am I somehow un-American?
What the heck does it mean anyway?
Let's ask George:
nope not in the least.

Only if you are an anal retentive atheist schmuck...
Annoy a leftist: Think logically.
It means some people confuse spirituality with nationalism and write stupid songs about, then get all pissy when other people don't make the same mistake.
"All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell [the bible] teaches us how to run all our public policy and everything in society." Rep. Paul Broun (R)
"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!" -- Jerry Falwell
That was realy stupid boo even by your standards.
I have problems understanding why those who do not believe in a deity get all pissy about those who do asking the blessing of their deity upon the country of their origin.

Muscially ,I don't think it's a well-written song(and I do think Irving Berlin was a great songwriter).
Other than that, I have no problem with the song.
It is difficult for any decent person to sit back and not comment on the anti-Semitism,racism ,sexism ,and all-around ignorance espoused on the majority of DA's posts,it's fucking sad when one gets a warning for simply being a decent person.
I don't know about others, but for me, I just think its unhealthy to have God mentioned on legal tender. Clearly it is in the dollar that we have placed (misplaced?) our trust, not God.
I don't believe in the Christian God, but if I did I would consider it blasphemous to use his name in this way.
As for 'God bless America' specifically? Meh. I personally think that if God exists, he'd be more impressed with actions benefiting others than words unquestioningly seeking favor for a single nation. But if that's the way Christians want to talk to their God, they should suit themselves.

Queen Lillian Got it right. You do understand that there are Christians in every nation right?

Why would God bless a country that acts like Rome on steroids? It doesn't bother me really even though it is silly propaganda.

Screw that, it must be "In Obama We Trust". I'd follow him across the Rubicon or the Potomac in this case because he's my hero.

I get annoyed when those who do beleive get pissy with those that don't, personally I have no issue with people asking their god (whomever that may be) to bless any aspect of their life, but do not appreciate being frowned apon for not wishing to do so myself, and when it becomes ingrained in government traditions I think, what about those who are not christians and firmly beleive in their faiths? how awful it must feel for them to have an alternate religion thrust apon them? When I of no religious beleif find it as confronting as I do. Again I have NO issue at all with anyone beleiving or praying for as they wish to, which is indeed part of the problem I see.
It's request, not a demand. Are you sure you're an American?
When will the world learn that a million men are of no importance compared with one man? [Henry David Thoreau]
A request, particularly of a deity, would include "please". Otherwise, it's an order. "Please take out the garbage" is a request. "Take out the garbage" is an order.
I believe in the Christian God, but I don't particularly admire those who call themselves Christians. So, I am sort of like Ghandi, who said he likes Jesus but not Jesus' followers. Probably because Jesus would never do what most do.
With that said, I think everyone should follow their own path. If they want to congregate with like minded individuals, great. But cease browbeating those who do not agree with that mindset they have in common to WANT to collect into one group.
When was the last time a pagan or wiccan burned a christian at the stake or ranted at them for not conforming and threatening them with some sort of hell IF....
