It is unbelievable what was really going on in the middle east 2,000 years ago. The Inquisition was a vacation compared to what the tribes of Judah and Benjamin were doing to the residents of Palestine. Yes, even cannibalism.

So yeah, there is NO HOMELAND except HOMOLAND!

I think Snouter is trying to say that gay rights is one of the reasons to support Israel, and that he's a big fan of both Elton John and Madonna, regardless of anybody's sexual orientation, and he's glad that they both support Israel!

Snouter, of course you are proud of Jewish history and culture in Israel and of the civilization that your ancestors brought, but I agree with you that Israel's accomplishments as a liberal country on issues such as gay rights may be equally as important in many ways!

I recall reading that the first rock video on MTV was by Pat Benatar. There had been one on MTV before here but it was not a rock song. I think that is right, but hell, who knows about me and my vast knowledge?

Very, very few have made it as female singers without very very good looks. Madonna would be nothing. Benatar, Heart (their early days), and in C&W music the list would be very long.

Sex appeal has sold since "In the beginning..."

Ugly men have still made it, especially in hard rock. Doesn't hurt, though, if the man has chrisma and is good looking.

Very, very few have made it as female singers without very very good looks.

Benatar had/has very goods looks ,but she also had opera training,many of her songs had substance such as :

Well,you're forgetting that Madonna's sales came from females as well as males,but unlike most artists,women bought her records for different reasons then men.

To young women of the 80's, Madonna was/is a much a culture hero as Elvis and the Beatles are.

As one historian accurately said :Madonna is (still,as this thread alone shows) the most consistantly controversial American artist since Elvis Presley ,and the most chamelean like Amercian artist since Bob Dylan.

And her music has dealt with substantive issues like child abuse,sprituality,abortion(remember "Papa Don't Preach"?),etc.

No one has ever had a lasting career on sex appeal alone,and all the people you have mentioned have had lasting carrers.

Yeah,but even then,Roy Orbison didn't make it on his looks,but he did have one of the greatest voices ever(being a great songwriter didn't hurt him either).

Bob Dylan didn't make it on his looks or his voice,but he made it by being possibly the greatest songwriter ever ,and Dylan himself said in the 80s that he knew he had to develop himself as a songwriter ,because he knew wasn't going to make it on either his looks or his voice.

Jerry Lee Lewis' sister said she found Rod Stewart to be one of the sexiest men she ever met,lots of women feel the same way about "Rod the Mod",yet he (by his own admission) doesn't have either great looks or voice,but he has made great music.

My point being ,anyone (male or female,gay or hetro) can have short term success on sex appeal alone,but no one (male or female,in any field) has ever had long term success on sex appeal alone.
