It would be made up, if I insisted that there was an afterlife. "We carry on after death", because we influence those who survive us and they make the world better or worse -in some small part- because of our contribution. Not a lot, but more influence than a dead fish (if we interacted with other humans, anyway). That's to sum it up. Perhaps it runs along lines similar to the butterfly wings stirring a breeze that builds up strength or dissipates as it travels 'round the world. No spirit world needed; all the causes & effects stay in this world. My concept of heaven and hell are confined to this life, this reality, and can therefore be tested.

That's exactly right.
Every interaction between the self and its surroundings remains encoded in the world, rippling out, creating infinite interference patterns.
It is in this manner that the universe can be considered to be holographic: as the Romantics intuited, and the Buddhists, ascetics and Gnostics before them - the universe truly does exist in a grain of sand. As above, so below. These intuitions are now powerfully rooted in scientific principles. Every portion of the universe owes its condition to the influence of everything else in the universe.
This general manner of survival is simple, irrefutable fact.
Beyond it though is a significant body of evidence for the survival of consciousness itself. The mechanics of how this survival 'works' are certainly not something we are able to accurately and definitively describe yet, but the body of evidence remains.
The approach I favor is that there is a powerful argument to be made in favor of consciousness existing in all energy, not just in the brain. A universe awash in consciousness becomes a universe where survival after death becomes an expected phenomenon rather than a paranormal proposition.

What's that knocking?
Oh, that's the ghost of 86...
Is he a good ghost or a bad ghost daddy?
Well, that depends? Did you brush your teeth? He doesn't like children who don't brush their teeth.

I'll join you 86. I wonder if you can haunt a message board?
Siv:Hey who undid the permaban? Must have been 86 or QL.
Teller: who ran my underwear(with name on them) up the flag pole at the UN?
Ganja:Where is my stash! I know I left it right here.
CR: Who wrote Cow Punk on my mirror!
Yup it would be fun.
