Man Mistakes Girlfriend For Hog, Shoots Her

    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow...211904311.html

I don't know what this will do to their relationship but when a man mistakes a girlfriend for a hog, well, as Ricky would have said to Lucy, "You've got some 'splaining to do!"

As the story goes the man heard his girlfriend, never saw her, and assumed she was the hog he had been chasing. The cops failed to charge the man but then, this is Florida. I don't know if it qualifies for Stand Your Ground but shooting without seeing what you're shooting at? Criminal negligence I would think. But as I say, this is Florida.
Clean mind, clean body, take you're pick, you can't have both.

It's hard not to laugh but I doubt that the woman with her leg shot with a .30 caliber round is laughing.

Exactly. What kind of retarded policy allows someone to shoot a weapon at an unidentified, obscured target - have it end up being another human being, and walk away with no charges?

Perp: "Officer, it was an accident: I didn't see what I was shooting at until after I shot her!"
Officer: "You'll be fine son - this is Florida".

despicable. Great message to kids. We can condone recklessness and irresponsible behaviour when there's no intent.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels pissed off about this.
I mean seriously - make sure people can see you at all times in Florida. Otherwise they'll be able to shoot you and claim they didn't know what they were shooting at.

He's a dead man once she gets out of the hospital. "Honey, I thought you were a pig."

It's not just Florida. There are stupid people everywhere. They live among us.

You might be a redneck if you shoot you girlfriend mistaking her for a hog.

Florida and Arizona seem to be at the forefront of "It's my gun and I'll take it where I want." Florida seems to be at the forefront of shooting that gun anywhere they want.

-1 points for the stupid, and partisan Zimmerman reference. Otherwise, interesting.

Where do you see a Zimmerman reference, let alone a partisan one?
The Stand Your Ground reference is justified as there seems to be a pattern in Florida of laxity regarding shooting people. The only remote link with Zimmerman is that his case is concurrent, making it natural for you to make a link in your mind when you hear the term "Stand Your Ground".

When did Z ever invoke a "Stand Your Ground" claim to innocence?

The police claimed stand your ground is the reason they did not charge him.

Z's original lawyers claimed they would use "stand your ground" as defense.

Where did I say Z invoked Stand Your Ground? Once again, you're not reading what's actually in front of you.

SYG is not a defense. It is a type of law that bears upon the evaluation a self defense defense.

Um, that ought to be obvious given the topic of this thread, and the mention of Stand Your Ground.
Can you think of any other cases in Florida that bear upon this pattern? I can think of two. I'm sure you can too if you try.

If we were dig deeper, I think we'd find a host of them.

I take it you don't read, listen or watch news.

He's right - technically Z has not yet invoked SYG. He has entered a plea of not guilty. But the trial has not started yet.
