I would like to profess real admiration for you Lulu - I wish we had more folks like you - not just on the board but on the planet.
Genuine enough to actually seek out information and reevaluate your views based upon what you find, without any posturing. And you do this on a topic you don't have any emotional investment in.
I'll take a look at those links - I'm sure there will be stuff for me to learn there. I'm not emotionally invested either and don't know all that much myself. Only what I've picked up from living in countries where prostitution is legal - some actual data will be helpful.

Even if they were hand-picked, he didn 't evaluate them on their propensity for picking up hookers.

WHAT FLUCKING PLANET ARE YOU KIDS FROM! ARE YOU FLUCKING KIDDEHN MEH? ARE YOU SERIOUSLY SUGGESTING THAT THE SECURITY FORCE WITH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CLEARANCE AND THE MOST RESPONSIBILITY DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT OBAMA AND OBAMA DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT NOTHING AND IF FACT NEVER EVEN MET THEM. COME ON! DON'T BE SO RETARDED AND OR NAIVE!

Wow - just read the first of Lulu's links.
Pretty strong conclusions. The guy estimates a reduction in the rape rate of roughly 25% if prostitution were legalized which equates to roughly 25000 less rapes every year.
I'd contented myself with the vague notion that legalizing prostitution would provide legal and safe outlets... but being confronted with estimate figures really drives the point home. I wasn't emotionally invested in this question before, but I think I am now.

It is difficult for any decent person to sit back and not comment on the anti-Semitism,racism ,sexism ,and all-around ignorance espoused on the majority of DA's posts,it's fucking sad when one gets a warning for simply being a decent person.

Re: the OP. I work at a job that requires a security clearance. I can do things "off hours" that would result in the loss of my clearance, hence my job. So, yes, if a job requires a high enough clearance that hiring a prostitute would result in the loss of that clearance, a person can and should be fired for doing so. In the case of the Secret Service, using prostitutes to get at high level people is an often used tactic, and they have physical access to the POTUS, so they should be fired if they hire a prostitute, even while off duty.
The ambassador died, Obama lied.

NOt anyone no but if it compromises the security of another or the John happens to be a pastor or paid worker for a religious institutionthen if it violates that particulr churches morle beliefs then he can and likely should be fired.
Annoy a leftist: Think logically.
The answer to your question is tricky. The black and white answer should be yes. If you hire prostitutes while on the job it is breaking a law therefore subject to firing under any job/career position I can thing of. Now if you are off the clock that is a different matter. My best answer would be maybe. That would be up to the employer and their discretion. Prostitution is illegal, which means if you get caught doing it you are a criminal and most employers don't want to have a criminal working for them.
That being said I do believe prostitution should be legal and I am saying this from a woman point of view. Its a job just like anything else. I see no reason why they shouldn't have to pay taxes like the rest of us. I do not think it is even within the confines of being deemed a moral issue when its a consensual act between two adults. Does it make it any worse to know your partner cheated on you with a hooker instead of a ho? A cheater is going to cheat whether they pay for it or not. Also there are the health factors that come into play with unregulated prostitution and the information that was previously posted regarding the drops in violent sexual crime. Those reasons alone should be enough. It surprises me that we still hold on to these outdated ideas about prostitution. It should be a personal decision to make, same as any other career.
I won't comment on an employee's contractual obligation to his employer. That's not a controversial issue.
I would, however, legalize prostitution, and I wouldn't regulate it or tax it.
Why not regulate or tax it?
No. My parents employed twins that were prostitutes. They bartended and did some waitressing during the day, were prostitutes at night. Lovely women, with huge hearts. What they do off the job is none of our business.
