    Underrated Movies

    Bagdad Cafe

Jack Palence regarded this film as both his best performance and the best film he was ever in,he was right on both counts.

It is difficult for any decent person to sit back and not comment on the anti-Semitism,racism ,sexism ,and all-around ignorance espoused on the majority of DA's posts,it's fucking sad when one gets a warning for simply being a decent person.

Office Space is very insightful on modern corporate life, and Idiocracy seems very prophetic politically!

    Extract was very good.

    I enjoyed Adam

The Canadian film, Cafe de Flore was excellent

Moon could easily have been one of the worst movies made, with just Sam Rockwell and a robot voiced by kevin spacey as characther but it woreked out superbly

the French film Mesrine was superb

and lets not forget the great Atomised
    e. e. cummings is my hero.

    Internal Affairs

Richard Gere plays a ultra-corrupt cop who believes in conservative tradition and traditional family values(even though he doesn't live up to either in his personal life) who is harassing both an interal affairs cop with a non-comformist life style(Andy Garica) who also happens to be investigating him, and the non-conformist cop's feminist wife(Nancy Travis).

Gere has one of the greatest lines in all of flim history with "YOU SELFISH YUPPIE!".

The Swimmer with Burt Lancaster, based on the John Cheever short story, was a devastating indictment of the suburban middle-class that really deserved a lot more acclaim that it got. It also packed one hell of a twist ending.

^The Swimmer was one of the most retarded movies ever made! The legendary Bob Grant used to refer to Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy because of that odd ball shit combined with the fact that Ted swam to safety after he killed they young girl.

    John And Mary

In ths excellent 1969 film ,Dustin Hoffman and Mia Farrow play John and Mary ,two people (who had just lost their long-term significant others)meet by acident at a bar ,go back to his place and spend the night together (as The Rolling Stones would put it).

They spend the rest of the next day figuring out if they should stay together or break up right away.

This was Hoffman's first film after the one-two punch of The Graduate and Midnight Cowboy, and Farrow's first flim after Rosemary's Baby, and in this film they play two fairly normal people every bit as well as they played abnormal peple in The Graduate,Midngiht Cowboy and Rosemary's Baby.

    I like that film,but I wouldn't call it underrated.

It got good box office, good reviews,it's still fairly big on DVD.

    Five Corners

Directed by Tony Bill ,produced by George Harrison(yes, that George Harrison).

IMO Jodie Foster and John Turturro give their best performances to date in this film, and Tim Robbins gave his best performance before Mystic River in this film.

    The Intruder

Early 60's film directed by Roger Corman, starring a (then) unkown William Shatner.

Shatner plays a Northern racist who comes to a Southern town (forced to intergate it's schools) to try and stir up trouble, and finds he did his "job" too well.

    It's available on DVD.

It was a bit too ahead of its time. That style of storytelling - ie, unreliable narrator - went over the heads of the Sixties cinema audience.

In other words, you've never seen it, and have no idea what it's about.
