Ariz. lawmakers vote to ban abortions after 20 weeks

Arizona lawmakers have voted to ban abortions after 20 weeks except in medical emergencies, according to news reports from Phoenix.

The Republican-sponsored legislation passed the Senate by 20-10 and the House by 37-22, mostly along party lines. It heads to Gov. Jan Brewer, also a Republican, who has signed previous anti-abortion measures.

Firing it up for the election year. It seemed like the GOP was trying to keep a lid on the abortion/gay marriage/government religion stuff, but it's still coming out. Change of tactic, maybe?
"All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell [the bible] teaches us how to run all our public policy and everything in society." Rep. Paul Broun (R)

"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!" -- Jerry Falwell

Seems like Arizona may have a citizenry that by and large rejects liberal sacraments.

Gee, if states can ignore SC rulings (e.g., Roe v Wade), I guess the federal government can, too, if it decides to.

So much for the ruling on the ACA. It may not matter what its ruling is.

You want to make sure you know what Roe actually says before complaining about that.

I'm sure Obama intends to do ignore the court if it rules against him. That's why he has to go in the fall.

The courts decision affirmed abortion rights up to the point of perceived viability, which at the earliest is 24 weeks. Restricting them at 20 weeks would seem to be consistent with Arizona's pattern of thinking it can supersede federal law and ignore the SC.

Chachma v'Oz just severely spanked you for one of your lies, hadit. Why have you not retracted your statement?

What lie? I merely told him to be sure he knew what Roe stated. There's no lie. I think I've figured out why you keep flinging that stupid thing around, you don't know what a lie actually is, because you have yet to find one.

It's a metaphorical state of mind modern American liberals seem to inhabit. Much of what they say seems to come from feverish, incoherent dreams.

You falsely implied that my statement was incorrect. A lie by any other name is deceit.

If that's what you want to think. It's up to the Court, though, isn't it, to determine if you are correct that they would be ignoring Roe? I mean, I would hate to think you were making a false statement and all.

Yeah, why not? They've been ignoring the constitution for a very long time now...

Abortion should have "reasonable restrictions"...just like firearm ownership. The legislatures should decide what constitutes "reasonable".

The SC already did when it comes to complete prohibition. A person has a right to an artificially induced abortion up to 24 weeks gestation. Period.

Bingo. He's basically projecting the fevered hysteria in the right-wing echo chamber onto liberals.
