It should be affordable, not free. I don't know why everyone is so worked up about this Pelosi quote other than it's Pelosi at her dumbest. When I was 23, I wanted to be a writer and a screenplay writer. Then I realized making money and being able to buy what I wanted was great - it gave me a lot more freedom then if I was wondering where my next check was coming from or living paycheck to paycheck. All this quote is about is getting affordable healthcare for people with unconventional occupations... there's still the living paycheck to paycheck that sucks and it never gives a person financial security. However, that's on the artist/musician/photographer that they choose to sacrifice other things... like a house or financial security.

"Get a job that pays nothing- we will take care of your healthcare premiums!" Sounds real affordable, to the deadbeat.

Nothing is free. We'll pay more, get lower quality of care and have a more oppressive government. Good job, dumbass.

Is that what it says? Healthcare is so far down on the list of priorities for struggling artists, I don't know why this is so stressful for some.

You will, but not most Americans.

Oh really, is that so? I guess struggling artists enjoy getting sick and dying, don't they

Sure, however they shouldn't have to sacrifice healthcare, as it should be free for all Americans.

I believe that is a big part of Pelosi's point. Now, struggling artists won't have to place any priority on providing one of an individuals most basic need at all. They can continue to shirk, and society will handle what was previously an individual responsibility.

Here is the artists understanding of this, Lulu, in case you had any doubt about just what is being subsidized.

First of all, you won't die... stop being so dramatic. Second, you have nothing to lose. The real issue with healthcare right now is people with assets who cannot afford $500-800/month for decent insurance, can lose everything they've worked to get if they have major medical expenses. If you have nothing, you lose nothing and you'll still be covered by community hospitals.

No, because if you smoke pot all day while living off your roommates, you will NEVER grow up to be like me.

    No you don't.

First of all, you won't die... stop being so dramatic.
We will all die one day.

Second, you have nothing to lose.
What do you mean by that, exactly? Please explain.

The real issue with healthcare right now is people with assets who cannot afford $700-800/month for decent insurance, can lose everything they've worked to get.
Oh, so when middle-class people cannot afford their excellent insurance, that's a BIG problem, OMG, but when poor and working class people can't afford ANY insurance, it's not a big deal, I mean hey, what do they have to lose anyways, right.

If you have nothing, you lose nothing and you'll still be covered by community hospitals.
So then why having a real health insurance for us be a problem then, if we're already treated for free, as you say?

They've worked to get those assets, but can't afford their healthcare premiums?

Very few people that don't qualify for other health insurance programs cannot afford insurance.

I mean that middle class people can lose their life savings if they rack up $100,000s of debt in hospital bills because of accident, major health issues etc. Your average person can afford to pay cash for doctor visits and any testing that doctor recommends even if they don't have health insurance. It's not perfect but it's doable. People are not being denied service. Any person with assets who is in the middle class income bracket is the person who suffers because if they don't have or can't afford insurance, they can lose everything. People walk away from hospital bills all the time, in fact all of us pay for that. It is when that person is trackable (citizen vs. non-illegal) and has assets that they are screwed. Not difficult to understand.

Community hospitals don't and can't deny service. You may have a negative credit report if you don't pay them, but they can't take anything if you don't have assets.

Pho this is where you fall into cluelessness again. Premiums for people who have lost jobs or don't have employer health insurance can be upwards of $500/800/month. Most people who are between jobs or who are middle class can't afford this.
