I don't think a perfect love song has ever been written. It seems like every one has some slight reservation somewhere in the lyric. Frank Sinatra said The Beatles' Something was the greatest love song, and he might have been right.
ARE PSYCHEDELIC BLUES ROCK.
Tentative lyrics...
Change is what she said
When she left me
I laughed as she ran
Cryin’ out the door
But time has made me see
Misery has gettin' to me
I think it’s time to take her back
Once more
Cause it’s the wrong time
It's the wrong place
It's wrong way for me
To tell her that it’s over
It’s the wrong time
It's the wrong place
It's wrong way for me
To tell her that it’s over
Something’s got into my way of livin’
Strange it seems each time I say goodbye
I think of all the good she did in givin’
And loneliness has made me realize
That it’s the wrong time
The wrong place
The wrong way for me
To tell her that it’s over
It’s the wrong time
The wrong place
It's the wrong way for me
To tell her that it’s over
???? I’ve found my own sweet Heaven
Discontent shown clearly in her eye
The way she called my name, I knew the meaning of the game
Now I have ????? for her ???
The wrong time
The wrong place
The wrong way for me
To tell her that it’s over

One of my favorites from the incomparable Queen/Freddie. Freddie could sing, play, and "work a crowd":
Defining the above is impossible, and it is stll fun to fool with it.Best Love Songs
The video/pics is/are great from this Aussie band, the Hoodoo Gurus, A Thousand Miles Away, and so is the music:
OMG, if you are going to post STYX you gotta post THE BEST LOVE SONG they every did.
I am and I did. Lady sucks.OMG, if you are going to post STYX you gotta post THE BEST LOVE SONG they every did.
Here's a rare one, by Syd Straw, CBGBs:
This is Styx's best song. Ever.
'Course, if one (I name no names) hasn't the patience of cricket, one would not appreciate this one.
This ain't a bad love song either:
How about some C&W?
Natalie [Louise Maines Pasdar] can and does sing more than a couple of genres very well. One would be hard pressed to find a voice that fits this song any better than does her voice, and it is classic C&W.
You Could've Heard A Pin Drop
When They Walked Through The Door
Had To Turn My Eyes Away
My Heart Had Fell Through The Floor
Someone Whispered, "Where's Her Halo?"
She Had An Angel's Face
He Stood There Smiling, Holding On
To The One Who Took My Place
So Tonight The Heartache's On Me, On Me, Yeah!
Let's Drink A Toast To The Fool Who Couldn't See
Bartender Pour The Wine, 'Cause The Hurtin's All Mine
Tonight The Heartache's On Me
I Wonder If He Told Her
She's The Best He's Ever Known
The Way He Told Me Ev'ry Night
When We Were All Alone
She'll Find Out When The New Wears Off
He'll Find Somebody New
She'll Learn What Heartache's All About
And What I'm Going Through...
She made the Dixie Chicks. Booting Laura Lynch had to be done if they wanted the band to take off (they did, I presume), they did (hire Nat), and it did (the band took off). Best thing they could have done. If folks don't listen to C&W they don't appreciate how classic country her voice is when they play C&W.
Yes, Snouter, cry-in-your-beer C&W songs are love songs.
One time I drove to see a girl across the country
One night as I was driving through to Mexico
I had the windows wide open
It was cold and I was crying
And I later laid on the radio
Then I stopped outside of Tahoe
At this tiny mining town
At a diner to be billed for the ride
And in the wind I heard this crying
Like a heart broke right in two
I turned my collar up and went inside.
Well, I saw this smiling waitress
Joshing friendly with these truckers
They'd give her pats and she gives them shoves
I said: Miss, what's that awful crying?
Everybody laughed and said:
It's the tomb of the unknown love.
And then they pointed out the window to the stone
All by itself, beneath the tree, beside the hill
And on that winter night
I read these words alone
These words that are haunting me still, it said:
Here lies a young man struck down in his prime
By the awesome burning power of love
He couldn't stand his true love cheating
So he shot the girl down
They hung him from that tree right above
I know that local folks say it's the wind
But I know it's crying from the tomb of the unknown love.
So I drove on to my destination
I did the job my heart commanded of me
And when the sheriff sirens came up
I did even try to fight
They counted ten, I came out at three.
So now I guess tomorrow morning
They're gonna read some kind of paper
How I'm gonna pay the price for what I've done
Then they'll put the shackles on me
And we'll take a little walk
They won't have to drag me 'cos it's said and done.
And maybe someday they can put me at the stone
All by itself, beneath the tree, beside the hill
And lovers everywhere can come and read along
These words that will give them a chill, and it'll say:
Here lies a young man struck down in his prime
By the awesome burning power of love
He couldn't stand his true love cheating
So he shot the girl down
They hung him from that tree right above
I know that local folks say it's the wind
But I know it's crying from the tomb of the unknown love.

A terrific song to a terrific movie:
Slight (ha) change of pace from the above:

i just think it is a very romantic ideal is the lyrics
the only compass that i need
is the one that leads back to you
e. e. cummings is my hero.
Metallica Nothing else Matters
Seal - Kiss from a rose
Led Zeppelin Thank You.
I had an aversion to Leonardo DiCaprio (and I don't know why, I guess I did not need a reason since I am not rational) so I did not watch Titanic until 2 years ago. Loved it. So I've now enjoyed him in The Avator and Blood Diamond. Celine Dion's song is a perfect fit to Titanic. It seems his latest movies have been more than movies; long, expensive budgets, and really, "Productions" rather than just movies. Fine with me. I have yet to understand Inception.
November Rain is a nice choice.
This is more my kind of "love song":
