The constitution provides no right to vote.

Not only does the COTUS recognize a right to vote, but various amendments also establish that voting rights can't be limited by gender or race.

Photo ID and proof of residency. This is done once, upon registration. Our state doesn't suspect you've turned into somebody else by the time the election rolls around.

Stop being an idiot by saying things like "the Constitution doesn't establish a right to vote," and we'll have no problems.

Well, if you have ID to register, how can you suddenly not have ID to vote?

People do occasionally lose their identification credentials, sometimes in the space of time between registering to vote and actually voting.

If that happens, they cast a provisional ballot, which becomes a vote upon verification. It's not a serious impediment to voting.
    The ambassador died, Obama lied.

Yes, clearly we should cater to people who can't keep up with official documents.

Also, that's not the argument. The argument is that it is an impediment to obtain the ID in the first place.

Didn't say we should cater to them. Just explained their plight.

What would be its purpose? If your signature when you show up to vote matches the one you signed up with, that's enough. Re-establishing identity and eligibility over and over again serves no useful purpose. Should rules have a purpose and not be just more hoops for people to jump through to satisfy a noisy minority?

Sure. I'll grant that. When I can walk into a gun store and simply sign something and walk out with a gun without showing ID, I'll concede that ID is not neccessary to verify a person's identity.

Particularly when you have his signature on file.

If you can travel somewhere to submit your signature, you can get an ID while you're there.

    ?

When you register to vote, you ID yourself and sign. When you vote, you sign again. The poll worker compares the two.

No muss, no fuss, no crime. And more secure than obtaining a real or fake drivers license with a photo that looks sort of like you.

Again, that's not the argument. The argument is that its too difficult to get out of your house to get an ID.
