Well, we used to call ourselves progressives.
Obama's kinda fucked that up, though. Because he is WAY, WAY to the right of me/us. He's probably to the right of Nixon and Reagan.

When someone to the political right of Richard Nixon is considered genuinely progressive, we desperately need new terminology. Or something.

Apply a little thought to the subject, and you won't have to. Who doesn't hold photo ID's but would like to influence the outcome of a presidential election? Here's just one group. There are approximately 12 million illegal aliens in this country right now. Do you think they are going to vote democrat or Republican if they can vote without ID?

Romney, almost certainly the eventual nominee, has a lot of money and a squeaky clean background.

People are afraid of what they don't know ,and very few people in the US know either Mormons or Mormonism.

Franklin Ghramn represents a very significant part of the GOP base and he thinks Mormonism is a dangerous cult.

I don't see many Evangelicals supporting someone who believes the Garden of Eden was in Jackson County,Missouri.

In additon to that,I don't see anyone whose job was downsized by Bain Capitol voting for Romney either.

You say "Obamacare" I say "Romneycare".

Romney is the best the GOP has,but he falls incredibly short.

He was one-term Gov who didn't run for re-election because he knew he would loose,and he left his state one billion dollars in debt.

Plus,he has no solutions ,just the same old shit that got us into this mess in the first place,Romeny himself says things are getting better now.

It used to be the political left (unions, etc) that opposed illegal immigration. Not sure what happened there, other than the right finding a new niche market to exploit bigotry for votes.

On social issues, sure. But on economics and foreign policy, he's very Reaganesque. Even Paul Krugman, who's one of his biggest supporters, agrees.
