    Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close

I just saw it the other day and it's my third favorite 2011 film (behind Hugo and The Tree of Life).

Tom Hanks plays a man who dies at the WTC on 9-11 ,and the film is about his son(Thomas Horn) who has something similar to Asperger's ,and his widow (Sandra Bullock) one year later.

Although lots of flims have been made about traumatic events, not many films have been made about trauma itself and trauma(not 9-11) is what this film is about.

I can only recall one film that ever moved me in quite the same way this one did,and that was Schindler's List.

I won't go into detail, but I've never seen a film deal so honestly with trauma and with the related issues this film goes into.

And it's not all heavy drama, there is some humor in it too (though not much),it's well-directed and all the actors give outstanding performances.

It is difficult for any decent person to sit back and not comment on the anti-Semitism,racism ,sexism ,and all-around ignorance espoused on the majority of DA's posts,it's fucking sad when one gets a warning for simply being a decent person.

I wish I could forget the opening.

It is disturbing (or, it was for me).

Yeah ,some of the film is emotionally shattering (which trauma is),but some is humorous ,and it's uplifting in the end.

Having Tom Hanks play the universal good guy (as he almost always does) and having it occur on 9-11 makes it easier for the mass audience to personalize ,but in the end the film is not about him but about his family's grief and they would have the same grief if he had been killed in a mugging or an accident.

In leaving the film I thought about how Hanks' chracter did nothing to deserve to be murdered, but nobody deserves to be murdered, or physically assaulted or emotionally abused,no one deserves to have those things happen to them.

Instead of a nuclear holocaust we could just outlaw boxcutters and snakes on planes!
